Cool winter air blew in through the windows of the car, crisp and refreshing, against the hot air from the radiator. Freshly packed snow crumbled under the tires, filling in the space between the soft sounds of a Christmas song and the engine of the car.

"Why do I get the feeling we're the only ones out here?," you heard Joe's voice ask from next to you. You turned to see a slight smirk on his face, eyes still focused on the road.

"It's only eight-thirty, I'm sure there are others out," you replied, watching the trees as you passed by.

"Love, I don't think we've seen another car for miles," he said, with a slight chuckle. "You and your Christmas lights..."

"Hey, you love looking at Christmas lights with me," you let out, as a laugh escaped you both. He nodded his head at your words.

"I suppose...," he joked, as he kept driving.

For a while, it seemed as if the moon and the headlights from the car were the only sources of light around; that is until you drove over a hill, and bright displays of Christmas lights slowly came into view. Your eyes grew wide, like a kid in a candy store as you approached. Joe slowed down to a stop in front of the decorations, all dazzling and vivid.

"See, this was worth it!," you said, turning towards Joe with a smile. He was already looking at you with a smile of his own. You saw the lights from the displays, reflecting back in his eyes, making them sparkle like stars over a field of green.

"I know," he started, leaning towards you. "As long as I'm with you, it will always be worth it..."

You blushed at his words, leaning into his touch and kissing him back.

"I love you, Joe," you said after pulling away.

"And I love you," he replied as the both of you smiled at each other once more.

Soon, you were on your way again, continuing to look at more Christmas lights, before heading home and ending your evening with each other, in peace.
