Few days ago....
Merlin Thomas was working in the lab doing an experiment when he got a call from an unknown number.

"I told you not to call me", Merlin tells the man.

"We need an update. We can't wait any longer", the man says.

"Well, you have too. Jamie West hasn't gave birth yet", Merlin tells him. "Without that baby, there's no way to make sure that Zoom is the father".

"Look-".

"No. I'll call you. I have to go".

Merlin hangs up before the man on the other line says something.

Merlin's looks up from his work and his eyes land on Jamie. He can't help but notice her small dark freckles that somewhat hard to see because of her brown skin tone. He also notices, the smile on her face every time something goes right in her life. He started to become attached and it wasn't good but he didn't care. Having her close, having her a friend, made his world.

Merlin snaps out of his world, and walks to Jamie's office.

Hi", Jamie softly says. "Look, if youre here asking me to dinner, sadly I would have to decline".

"Bummer. I was actually here coming to tell you, I have a date tonight", Merlin says.

Jamie begins to feel sad, "oh okay. Well, I am glad", she forced herself to say.

"Yeah. I mean, it was supposed to be just dinner, but I'm thinking a date, since we've just ate food for the last two days", Merlin says.

Jamie looks at Merlin in confusion.

"But you had dinner with me the last two days", she thinks to herself.

"Oh", Jamie says. "You mean me. You have a date with me".

Jamie exhale and smiles. "Well, I didn't know we had a date".

"Well, you do now. But I guess that'll just have to cancel l, since you cancel dinner", Merlin says.

"I don't want to cancel. Since, returning to somewhat a normal life after Zoom, I told Oscar the owner of Jitter-bug, that I'll since every weekend. My dad sung there everyday. And although we didn't have a good relationship, I do it to feel close", Jamie says.

"That is a perfect excuse for canceling dinner", Merlin says.

"Wait. I don't want to cancel. How about you meet me at Jitters-bug and then we'll have dinner", Jamie says. "A date".

"Deal".

"But, I want to take this as slow as possible. I want to get to know each other", Jamie says.

"I get it. We're still friends. I wouldn't do nothing to jeopardize that", Merlin says.

"Good. So see you at 9?".

"See you at 9", Merlin says.
........
"None of these are working", Patty tells Jamie.

"Yeah, I know", Jamie says, sounding a little sad.

"Hey. We well find the perfect dress. One that says, "hey, I'm here to sing my ass off", and "hey, I'm ready for date night".

"Im really glad your here. And I can't wait for you to meet Iris and Jesse", Jamie says.
