CHAPTER TWELVE

My parents have just arrived at the bar to meet Theo for the first time.

"Mom. Dad. This is my boyfriend, Theo." I said to my parents introducing Theo to them.

I think Theo might be the one, which is why it would mean the world to me if they got along.

"We heard so much about you." Mom said to Theo.

"And I, about you." Theo said to Mom.

"And now we're curious to see if you live up to our daughter's expectations." Dad said. 

"Dad!" I said to my dad as my eyes widen.

Both of my dad and Theo crack a smile at the panic in my voice.

"Relax, honey, I'm just joking." Dad said to me.

"You know we're happy as long as you are happy." Mom said to me.

"I can assure you, I have made Desi's happiness my number one priority." Theo said to my parents.

My shoulders drop in relief and Theo gently puts his arm around my waist.

"Which is why I asked her to move in with me." Theo said.

"Right, we heard all about that." Dad said.

"I take it Connor's still ratting me out?" I asked to my parents.

"No, honey. Remember you kept me on hour on the phone the night Theo asked you to move in with him?" Mom said to me.

"Did she, now?" Theo asked with a shock expression in his face.

"She was so excited. It was simply impossible to get her to hang up and let me get my beauty sleep." Mom said.

"Oh, God." I said out of embarrassment.

Heat floods my cheeks, but I quickly laugh with Theo and my parents.

"I was worried it might be too soon, but your mother told me there's no such thing where there's love involved." My dad said.

Theo looks down at me protectively, with the warmth he usually keeps hidden from the world.

But he wants my parents to see. He's showing them the real Theo because he wants them to know how safe I am with him.

"I fully agree with you. And I do love your daughter." Theo said responded to what my dad said.

My mom's mouth curls into a brilliant smile, and my father nods approvingly.

Has Theo just declared his love in front of my parents like it's the most casual thing in the world? Gosh, he is incredible. How did I get so lucky? I should let him know that I love him, too. More than he can imagine.

I wrap my arms around his waist and hug him so tight, my body is molding into his.

"And I love him." I said with a smile to my parents.

I look up into Theo's magnificent eyes and realize you would never known what it feels like to love someone, not really. Not until I met him.

"Aww! Our baby girl is in love." Mom said to Dad.

"Mom... Yes, I am. I'll scream it from the rooftop if that's what it takes to show you my intentions." I said to Mom.

"Oh, you don't have to do that. It's more than clear to us that you're thoroughly and madly in love with your boyfriend." Mom said.

"And now you're making me blush again." I said to Mom.

I turn my puppy eyes to Theo. "Help me out here?" I asked to Theo.
