A few hours later, I took my bag and headed out. It was time to go to court and settle this case in order to get back to more important things. Just as I opened my car, a voice called my name.

"Aaron!" It was Sylvie.

"Yes?"

"Any update on the case with the drunk juvie?"

"I'm headed there now. Why?"

"Oh, great! I forgot to tell you that I was the one who arrested him. Therefore I'm a potential witness."

"That's not how it works."

"Fine. But I really was the one to get him. Can I just tag along?"

"You have a case to solve. Don't you think that's a bit more important?"

"I'll talk to you about theories and evidence on the way. To save time. Please! Just this once. I told Lt. James I was going to talk to you about the evidence and see if it's enough to rightfully question a suspect. Never said how."

"Suspect?"

"We'll talk about it in the car. Get in already, you'll be late." It felt like I was having some sort of deja vu. Sylvie used to follow me around a lot before we cut things off. I got in the car and sat. I accidentally placed my briefcase on Sylvie as I was used to placing it on the passenger seat.

"Sorry."

"It's alright. I'll hold it for you." She placed it in between her thighs and buckled her seatbelt. It was all so weird to me. I've forgotten about Sylvie for a long time, yet I still can't ignore my feelings. I don't want to be back with her, do I? Or is it that I want to be with her again romantically? Maybe even intimate. I tried my hardest to focus on what she was saying, but her voice alone made me weak. What am I saying? I don't love her anymore. I can't. She broke me. Made a fool of me. Used me.

"Aaron? Did you hear what I said."

"Yeah. I got it."

"Seriously?"

"What?"

"I just asked if you'd like to skip this and head over to your place. I knew you weren't listening, Aaron. What's on your mind?"

"Nothing, I just zoned out again."

"You don't randomly zone out. Come one. Let's talk." I stopped at a red light and faced her. Just as I was about to ask her a question, I finally realized why I'd been feeling this way. She never dressed in such a way before. Never worn the perfume from earlier, and never came this close to me. She's trying to reconnect. Instead of asking her why she cheated on me, I decided to ask,

"Do you still have feelings for me?"

"What?"

"Do you still love me?"

"That's what's been bothering you?"

"Why are you changing all of a sudden?"

"What are you talking about?"

"Dressing in tight clothes, different perfume, trying to get close again. This is the exact way you caught my attention in Law school." She looked away as her eyes softened and sighed.
