" We don't matter as much. "
" EDMUND, YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO BE HELPING ME WITH THE GROCERIES. " - Said Lucy as she walked inside the enlistment centre.
The boys in the line behind Edmund started laughing, and the boy looked utterly angry as one of the boys said: " Better luck next time, eh squirt? " - And pushed his head.
The two Pevensies walked outside, and Edmund grumbled: " Squirt? He barely had two years on me. " - Edmund picked the case filled with fruits from Lucy's hands. - " I'm a king! I've fought wars, and... and I've led armies, and I'm even engaged! "
" Not in this world. " - Replied Lucy as they both adjusted the sacks with food on the front and the back of the bike.
" Yeah, instead, I'm stuck here doing battle with Eustace Clarence Scrubb. If anyone so deserved a name. " - Lucy looked to the side, where she saw a soldier flirting with a girl as she tucked a strand of her hair behind her ear. Lucy repeated the movement, and Edmund called out her attention - " What are you doing? " - He furrowed his eyebrows.
" Nothing. " - Lucy said. - " Come on then. " - Edmund followed after his sister, looking utterly confused.

" Hello! I'm home! " - Called out Lucy as she opened the doors to the house of her aunt and uncle. The girl walked through the living room, passing by the man reading the newspaper.
" Hello, Uncle Harold. I tried to find some carrots, but all they had was turnips again. " - She placed the fruits on the kitchen counter and took off her coat. - " Shall I start making soup? Aunt Alberta's on her way home. Uncle Harold? " - Lucy called again when the man didn't respond.
Edmund stuck out his tongue towards the man, and Eustace came rushing down the stairs.
" Father! Edmund's making faces at you! " - He said. He threw a spitball at Edmund, which landed on his neck.
" Why, you little... " - Edmund rushed up the stairs, and Eustace exclaimed: " Father, he's gonna hit me! "
The Pevensie was about to hit his cousin, when Lucy called his name with a smile on her face. " It's from Susan. " - The girl raised a letter.
They went to Lucy's room, where Edmund sat by his sister's side as she read the letter from Susan out loud. Susan was mentioning a British naval officer, a handsome one, who had invited her to a tea party. But the letter ended with news that took their hopes down the drain, as Susan said that Lucy would have to spend a few more months in Cambridge. Edmund wasn't included, because in about three weeks, his classes were starting and he would head to Oxford with Olivia.
" Another few months? How will I survive? " - Asked Lucy, and Edmund sat down again next to her.
" You're lucky. " - He said, grabbing the letter. - " At least you've got your own room. I'm stuck with mullet mouth for three more weeks. "
