Chapter Three
Defense Against the Dark Arts
—As soon as I could feel the sun shining through our windows, I arose ready to start the day. I always hated the first day of school, it made me feel nauseous and clammy, when in reality, I looked completely normal. Then again, who doesn't hate the first day of school.
I felt as though if I felt comfortable I would feel prepared, so I began taking a lot longer than necessary to get ready, mainly out of sleepiness and dread of the first day. I left my dorm very slowly in an attempt to let my roommates be awoken by the chirping of the little birds that were already present outside the window rather than me slamming the door. I headed in the direction of the girl's bathroom which would soon be covered in fog and humidity from the extremely overbearing shower I was about to take.
Afterwards, I attended to my uniform ensuring that the fabric was perfectly straight with not a single wrinkle in sight. Once I was dressed, I attempted to put effort into my hair but nothing seemed to be working, leaving my hair let loose which would soon turn into soft waves. As I finished in the bathroom, I left the bathroom silently as I had entered and returned to my dorm.
Upon entering my dorm, I was aware that my other three roommates were now awake having a slow start to the day we knew was going to last a lifetime. As the three girls began getting ready, I prepared my books in anticipation of not being late.
Seeing I was done early, I pulled out spare parchment and a quill that I found lying around in my area and decided I would write a short note to my father informing that I was safe and doing fine.
Dear Father-
I am at Hogwarts safe and sound. I figured I'd write you a letter on the first day of class knowing that you'd get it eventually. There is no telling exactly what our owl gets up to.
Estella seems to be doing better. I'm still not entirely sure where she is at mentally, but I don't want to pressure her into talking about Cedric yet. She appears to be distracting herself with other topics to avoid thinking about it. I'll have to admit that I am slightly worried about her.
Also we gained a new Defense Against the Dark Arts professor. Something seems off about her. I believe Dumbledore said her name was Umbridge.
Anyways, I just wanted to let you know I was safe. I miss you.
Your daughter,
AuroraOnce all the words I needed to say were spilled upon the page, I rolled it up gently and sealed it with a ribbon matching the main color of Ravenclaw. I would later take it to the Owlery in hopes that my owl would be there knowing how special my owl can be sometimes, while also hoping that the rest of the population at Hogwarts didn't have the same idea as me.
As I was heading out the door, I swore I heard Luna say something about Nargles and a pair of her shoes but I wasn't entirely sure so I just let out a silent laugh as I closed the door and headed in the direction of the Great Hall.
As soon as my feet made it through the doorframe of the Great Hall, I heard Hermione call me over knowing that I would hear her. I walked over to her table noticing that she was alone, clearly waiting on her two friends to join her.
"How did you sleep last night?" Hermione asked me as I was beginning to sit directly in front of her while she reached over to grab me a plate so I could eat.
"Quite well surprisingly. How about you?" I answered her as the both of us began to put a variety of breakfast foods on our plates knowing more than likely our friends would pick off our plates once they arrived.
