Wrote this in June 2022... I had many versions but this is by far the best :')
"The most beautiful eyes are those that have seen the most pain and cried the most tears, but can still smile after everything," she whispered into her partner's ear, smiling sadly as she lay her head on their shoulder. They were drawing, hand moving in short strokes as a charcoal coloured eye began to form on a blank face.
"But you always say that mine are the most beautiful you've ever seen," they mused in a hushed tone, glancing down at her as their pencil hesitated in its path, a troubled look on their face.
"Indeed they are," she breathed as she climbed onto her partners lap, halting their movements. She knew they weren't feeling good; they always drew when those memories came back. They looked at her confused as she tangled one hand into their abundant red curls, the other stroking the scar that cut across their freckled cheek.
"You are the strongest, bravest person I have ever known. This may not help much right now, but I just want you to know that I'm here for you. You don't need to go through this alone any more, okay? I'm not saying you have to talk about it, you have someone for that and I won't ever make you do anything you're not comfortable with... But if you need cuddles or whatever, don't hesitate to tell me. I'm here to love you now and there is nothing that will stop me. You've been through a lot and it's okay if you need some space, just tell me and I'll give it..." Her little speech was promptly ended when she noticed the tears well up in their eyes and was pulled into a bone-crushing hug.
"Thank you," they sighed through their sobs as she stroked their head, giving them the time they needed.
"See, sometimes it's better to let it all out. No one's going stop you now, okay?" They nodded quickly into her chest, breathing in her scent as they calmed down. Making sure that their breathing had evened out, she lifted their chin and looked down into warm brown eyes, the most beautiful ones she had ever seen. She smiled suddenly, a warm bright smile that seemed to be contagious as her partner brought her down to peck her cheek, a ghost of a smile on their lips.
The shock of that small action made her unsteady as she fell into the embrace of the one she loved most. And in that warm moment, where they looked into each others eyes, it was made clear that those feelings were reciprocated.
