The black nosed chipmunk sat down on the beach of his treehouse and watched as the snow fell. He shivered from the cold and let out a small sigh as he gripped onto his coat and pulled it closer to himself hoping to provide warmth.

Chip loved his brother and his friends but, it would seem the black nosed chipmunk was having a very hard time to be merry and bright like his friends and his brother.

Chip had always loved Christmas but this year he was actually kinda dreading it. He just wanted it to be over already. Why did he feel this way? Was something wrong with him? Is it normal to feel this way on Christmas?

Another sigh escaped his mouth as he rested his chin on his paw. Suddenly, something touched his shoulder which caused Chip to jump slightly.

Placing his paw over his heart he looked up and saw Dale standing next to him and looking down at him with a worried look on his face.

Chip huffed in annoyance as he glared at Dale. "What are you doing out here?" Chip asked in a snappy tone however, he hadn't meant for his tone to come out that way.

"I came to check up on you, you've been out here for about an hour now Chip." Dale said in a slightly worried tone as he sat down next to his older brother.

Chip looked over at Dale before averting his gaze back to the snow. "I'm fine Dale, you don't need to worry about me. You should head back inside it's cold out here." Chip said in a stern tone.

"If it's so cold outside then why have you been out here for an hour?" Dale asked in a slightly annoyed tone.

Chip huffed "it doesn't matter why I came out here Dale, can you just go back inside? I'd rather be alone right now." Chip said in a calm tone.

Dale shook his head "I'm not going inside until you tell me what's bothering you. You've been acting different lately and I wanna know why." Dale said in a concerned tone.

Before Chip could reply Dale placed his paw in front of him and spoke "And don't tell me nothing is wrong because we both know that's a lie Chip." Dale said as he placed his paw back to his side.

Silence fell upon the two chipmunks as they both watched the snow together. After a few minutes of silence Chip let out a small sigh before looking over at Dale.

Chip rubbed the back of his neck before speaking "you know how we always got so excited for Christmas?" Chip said quietly.

Dale nodded his head and looked at Chip with a small smile on his face.
"yeah of course I do." Dale said.

Chip sighs again and looks at the snow again "have you ever not been excited for Christmas before?" Chip asked in a small tone.

Dale looked over at Chip with a small frown "well yeah...when we were apart for so many years I never really wanted to enjoy the Christmas season because you weren't there with me. Do you not feel excited for Christmas this year?" Dale said

"Well it's not just this year I haven't felt excited for Christmas for at least thirty years. Is it bad that I actually want it to be over with?" Chip asked

"No I don't think so. I felt the same way before." Dale said

"Do you feel that way now?" Chip asked in a curious tone.

"Well I don't want it to end but I'm not as excited about it as I used to be." Dale said

"I don't know Dale I just feel like something is wrong with me. I want to be excited about Christmas but I just don't feel that way." Chip said

Dale placed his paw on Chip's shoulder "nothing is wrong with you Chip. It's completely normal to feel the way you do. But if you want to get excited for Christmas maybe we should watch a movie or make some cookies and decorate them after." Dale said.

Chip smiles slightly "yeah that sounds like a good idea actually." Chip said

Dale smiles "let's go inside then." Dale says as he stands up. Chip then stands up as well and the two chipmunks head back inside and make some cookies and decorate them while watching Christmas movies.
