Chapter 7 – Lost Kiss
Abyss World
Darkness engulfed everything in this tiny world. The only ray of hope, the only source of life and light, was the waterfall of life. Standing near its glowing white edges, was a man. He stood beside a girl who didn't seem at all pleased with his company.
“You know...I really can't wait for the ceremony. You will look beautiful bathing in the glowing water of life.”
The girl's icy blue eyes glared at him, “I'm glad someone will enjoy it.” Her voice was full of venom.
He chuckled, not the least bit fazed by her attitude, “Yes. Every time I see this water...so pure white and glowing, giving light to this world of darkness, it really soothes me.”
She just stared at the man before her. The man she was supposed to marry. The man she was only supposed to marry because of the disappearance of her little sister. Though for everyone else he showed the air of an innocent, kind, and naive young man, she knew there was more to him. His warm chocolate eyes had nothing of real warmth. They were actually cold and calculating.
“I heard that this never ending water actually represents the hope of the first Queen, the one who created this world. She took one of her own feathers, from her white wings of hope, and every time the water passes through it, it transforms into this magical glowing water that provides both light and life for us.”
“Yes. Especially you, who will bathe here for a whole week before our wedding, you will live longer than any other, just like the queens before you.”
“Aren't you glad? Even though you were supposed to marry my younger sister, because of her disappearance, you get the older sister, the one to become the next queen!”
He chuckled, “Yes! Though I do feel sad that my fiancee just left me like that...I guess I was lucky in the end. Such a beautiful wife I will have!”
The girl's glare reached the level of killer-intent, and it took everything in her to not just kill him there. Though she knew her little sister well, and her love for the original world, she knew she was more of an observer than doer, and she would never do something so irresponsible. And now looking at this man, and his “luck,” she couldn't help but suspect him.
“You know, the first Queen was said to have such a pure heart, just like an angel. Did you know that?”
A nostalgic expression passed through the man's face as his expression softened, shocking the girl. She hadn't expected such a reaction.
“Yes...Yes, she was...”His voice seemed to drift off, as if a sudden memory took over his mind and he was no longer there.
Flashback – Centuries Ago
Edward's POV
“Who are you?” The “angel” before me said, her voice cold and glare deadly. But, even if she acted this way, seeing how she had treated the children before, I knew this wasn't her true nature. And seeing her act protectively like this, I couldn't help but think how cute she looked.
“I'm like you.” I said with an innocent smile.
From behind me, a doll appeared. It was a ragged doll, the type a little girl would carry around close to her chest until it was too worn out. The doll strangely walked on its own, and its button eyes even seemed to be able to see, as it tilted its head to the side, staring at the angelic figure.
The girl's face softened, as she stared curiously at the doll who held on shyly to my leg. Then, her beautiful violet eyes looked up to stare at me, a mixture of curiosity, wonder, and...happiness. The smile on her face was so pure and innocent, nothing like the fake ones I casually threw around. She looked just like a real angel. At that moment, I decided. I would have this girl for myself. She was so different from everything else I knew. If I wanted to do what I had to, and follow a cruel road, I needed something pure and innocent like her to keep me sane along the way.
