"Ah, there you are. Come join me and some other warriors for a hunting patrol. We'll be hunting near the great oak tree. Your sister and her mentor is coming with us along with your father birchfall." Cinderheart meowed.
"Ok."
I'm not sure how I feel about dovepaw coming with us. Lately she's been getting all the attention!
We waited by the entrance for Birchfall, lionblaze, and dovepaw. When they came, we left and headed strait for the great oak.
"Squirrel." Dovepaw meowed.
"Where?" Lionblaze asked, raising his head up and opining his mouth.
"Over there." Dovewing said pointing her tail to show where the squirrel was.
"How do you know? I can't hear or smell anything." Lionblaze asked.
"What do you mean you can't hear it? It's so loud I'm surprised that it hasn't driven all the prey in the forest away by now." With that she padded away. We followed her for awhile until eventually after what felt like moons she finally got into a hunter's crouch. Then there it was, as clear as day. She jumped in the air at just the right moment, then caught it just in time.
How? How did she even know when it was so far away? Is it possible that she was lying and was just walking until she eventually found it? No, there's no way. She knew exactly where that squirrel was, although I've no clue how. By the look of the other cats faces, they have also no clue how.
"Dovepaw, how did you even know that it was here?" I asked speaking up for the first time.
"How did you not?"
"How she knew it was here doesn't matter now. Dovepaw that was an outstanding catch!" Cinderheart meowed. The others murmured in agreement.
Aren't they wondering how she even knew where it was? Why are they praising her catch so much? I could have done better. I'll even prove it.
I opened my mouth and tasted the air.
"Mouse." Me and dovepaw said at the same time.
"I'll get it." I said with a little edge to my voice.
I crouched down, my eyes not leaving the mouse for a second. Now! I sprang. But just when I did so I placed my footing wrong and stepped on a twig.
No!
With that, the mouse started to scramble away. But then dovepaw got in front of it, making the mouse turn around and go back to me. I reached out my paws and caught it.
Yes!
I lifted up the mouse and brought it back to the others. I dropped on the ground when I heard my father say:
"That was incredible dovepaw! How did you even manage such an amazing catch?"
"It was easy!" She said back.
They all started praising her, so I spoke up:
"Hey! I caught it!" None of them took any notice, they were all paying way to much attention to dovepaw.
What!? How dare they! I caught it! All dovepaw did was walk in front of it! It's not fair! You should be praising me, not her!
With that, I stalked back towards camp, my tail between my legs. I didn't bother to tell them where I was going.
They won't care anyways. Their to focused on dovepaw to care.
