CHAPTER 13

Li Ming drove his car into his driveway. His house was big with a pool on the side and two-story layers. He walked up to the house door, only to realise it was cracked open already.

The house was dark, the lights were off. He pulled out the gun sitting on his waist and held it down, taking careful steps into the house. As Li Ming walked into the lounge, a person in black swiped his ninja stars towards Li Ming. Li Ming dropped his gun and stumbled back. Li Ming ducks and grabs his arm pulling him out from the side of the wall. The dark room made it harder to differentiate between the furniture. Li Ming slammed him onto his sofa pushing the whole thing over. Li Ming pounced at him. He quickly moved and kicked Li Ming in the jaw. Li Ming rolled on the floor but got up immediately. Li Ming goes forward, and the guy takes another move, slicing into the top of Li Ming's arm. Someone at the door burst in and launched himself at them. Li Ming punches at his face and takes a jab to the gut. The guy quickly runs off. Li Ming takes a punch at the person.

"Hey, Li Ming are you trying to kill me?!"

Li Ming stopped, after hearing the familiar voice and shuffled over to the light switches, turning on the light. The light switched on, and he saw Cheng Xing standing in the middle of the room in his blue ripped jeans and now ruffled shirt.

"Why are you here? How did you get in?

"Firstly, I'm here because I followed you- not in a weird way. I have no home to go to and as a police officer you wouldn't let your partner sleep on the streets, right? Secondly, I got in through the door which was already open. I then saw you fighting so I helped you only for you to punch me..."

"Sorry, but I don't remember inviting you in."

"Did you say 'sorry'? I didn't know you knew that word," Cheng Xing said

"-Because I have manners something that you don't have, now you can go."

"I just saved your life, clearly someone is trying to kill you. Plus, I don't have a place to go. How about I stay at your house so I can sleep somewhere, and I can protect you, like a bodyguard."

Li Ming looks Cheng Xing up and down.

"No, you can go."

"Ok, well it would be sad for the prefect to find out that you would leave you own partner on the streets, all alone-"

"Don't forget to shut the door on your way out."

Cheng Xing walks out and closes the door.

"It would be very, very, sad if you didn't get promoted because of this," Cheng Xing shouted from outside the door. Li Ming clenches his jaw, walks over and opens the door. Li Ming looks at Cheng Xing sitting on the floor. He gave an angry sigh.

"Get in, before I change my mind."

Cheng Xing gets up from the floor and walks in.

"You can stay but I have rules. RULE.1 You're staying here because of work nothing else. RULE.2 You must help with housework like dishes RULE.3 Privacy exists so don't think of doing anything stupid and RULE.4 Don't break anything."

Li Ming walks to the kitchen and gets a medical kit and sits on the kitchen bench, looking at his arm which has now stained the white shirt in blood. Li Ming quickly unbuttoned the shirt and threw it to the floor. Cheng Xing looked at Li Ming's injured arm and glanced a few times towards Li Ming's muscles.

"Let me help," Cheng Xing said.

"I don't-"

"If I'm staying in your house, I need to help."

Cheng Xing softly dabs the cotton ball. Cheng Xing takes another look at Li Ming's body. Li Ming watches as his eyes keep darting from his arm to his body. Li Ming grabs the bandages and bandages it up quickly.

"It's your turn now," Li Ming said.

Li Ming grabbed the Arnica cream and rubbed it on Cheng Xing's chin lightly.

"This will help with bruises."

They look at each other. Their gaze holding for a few seconds.

"Li Ming, you're looking at me like you like me," Cheng Xing said, punching Li Ming's injured arm. Li Ming winces.

"Sorry, forgot about your arm."

Cheng Xing looks down at Li Ming's body. Li Ming followed the gaze of Cheng Xing's eyes and flushed in surprise. He quickly left and came back with a blue shirt on.

"So, where am I staying?"

Li Ming takes him upstairs and points him to the guest room. Cheng Xing walks into the room.

"Tomorrow, bring your clothes and necessities."

Li Ming walks down the stairs as Cheng Xing shuts the door. Cheng Xing looked around the room before flopping onto the white double Queen-sized bed.

They sat in the blue car. A flash of a bowl of fried rice. Cheng Xing sees a glass of what seemed like alcohol before everything fades.

Cheng Xing sat up sweating.

"What do those mean?"
