He pulled himself from the ledge. The Moon is very bright tonight, which made it harder for him to hide in the shadows. He looked up the big moon and Cheng Xing remembered the moonlight from his dream, the full moon that was above him. He gripped onto the railing. The building was tall. Cheng Xing grabbed a rail, his hand slipping because of the gloves on his hands. His heart racing as he climbed higher and higher up the building. He climbed up onto a ridged old balcony and placed the dagger in the windowsill to pry the window open. The window made a small cracking sound and Cheng Xing slowly lifted it open. He crept through the dark house and walked into what seemed like the bedroom. There was a single sleeping figure on the bed.
Without hesitation, he lifted the blade and plunged it into their neck. Crimson beaded against pale skin. There was no time for them to process anything. Their screams were silent as their eyes opened in shock and closed again, their life going with them. A man came running in the doorway and he rushed at Cheng Xing, but with one swish Cheng Xing cuts his throat. His body makes a thud as it falls to the floor, blood pooling out into a puddle. In the corner of the room a baby started crying. Cheng Xing turns to it.
Cheng Xing raised the blade above the baby. He looked into big eyes, watery eyes- innocence no doubt snuffed out- seeing his reflection, a cold-blooded killer. This child would grow up with no parents, like he did. His future torn and ruined from someone's selflessness. He dropped the dagger, the blade clanging on the floor.
"They had a family," Cheng Xing said, voice barely above a whisper. Realization seeping in. Cheng Xing looked down at the dagger with blood on it. He could see his own face reflected in the cool steel, stained with red.
Cheng Xing couldn't really run back to Li Ming's house covered in blood, so he decided the next best, would be the prefect. So, Cheng Xing stood at the sink, washing the blood on his hands. Being at the prefect wasn't the best idea he's ever had, but the building had what he needed. He pulled out his phone and turned on the flashlight as his only light source as he walked into the dark locker rooms.
Not only being in a police locker room in the middle of the night in the dark was weird, but also being cloaked fully in black with daggers and flecks of still drying blood on you wasn't the best. It also wouldn't be fun to explain yourself if someone walked in.
He walked to his locker; the floor still wet, and he stripped off all his clothes and changed into the spares that he luckily had put in there for backup. He placed all his assassins' clothes and daggers in the bag in his locker hiding it as best as possible. Cheng Xing walked out of the locker room leaving his assassins clothes in there, which was a very dangerous idea. He walked down the hallway when he heard a sound behind him. Cheng Xing looked around. The training room seemed to be the most lit, so he slowly backed into the room. Cheng Xing turns around and slowly walks around the corner to see Xiao Mei. Cheng Xing sighed.
"Sorry, you scared me."
"What are you doing here?" Xiao Mei said, completely ignoring what Cheng Xing had said before. Alright, valid, considering the circumstances.
"Finishing off some work," Cheng Xing lied? - well, technically the truth, just maybe not what she had in mind. He put his hands in his pockets and slouched a bit to appear to drop his guard.
"In the training area?"
"I accidently walked into the wrong room. It was too dark to see."
Xiao Mei looks Cheng Xing up and down, there was just silence between them.
Cheng Xing also looks down at himself. "What is it?"
"Want to spar?" Xiao Mei asked.
Cheng Xing stood on the other side of the map. I don't really want to hurt her. I'll just go easy. Cheng Xing thought. She rushes at him. She swings, he ducks. She kicks, he swerves. Cheng Xing tries to punch but she grabs his fist and turns to his side. She glides behind him and pulls his arm back. Cheng Xing grits his teeth. Okay. So maybe, just maybe, he underestimated her a little. Cheng Xing thought ruefully as he raised his elbow and hit her stomach. Xiao Mei stumbles back and smirks. Ominous.
