Cathy: in doctor who Clara was scattered throughout the doctors timeline and he called her the impossible girl, she died in Victorian London and her last words where run you clever boy and remember. So when he met modern day Clara and she used that to remember the Wi-Fi he learned who she was/helped him know. Therefore it is vitally important to the plot.
