The world had been ending for a while. No one was sure as to why, but that's what it had been doing for a few months. People were frantic, and the scientists were trying to figure out what had gone so wrong.
Even the Theatre wasn't safe from it all. The Master of the Graveyard had gone missing, which meant her twins returned to the glass. Gammon wasn't anywhere. I had searched the entire forest, and I couldn't find him. Gear was keeping Court with him until this passed by. I hadn't seen either of them for days.
I was alone in the Theatre. Though, to be fair, I didn't feel like I was alone. No, it felt like there was someone with me. Perhaps that was just my paranoia working as it usually did, against me.
Saying nothing, I just cleaned the cracked windows as I had once done. No one was there to help me. No one was there to take over. My heart was heavy when I managed to finish the simple task.
My stomach rumbled, reminded me that I was hungry. Officially, mud dolls didn't need to eat, but Lich had been incredibly talented with this body. It didn't matter anymore about food. I didn't have to share with anyone. That thought made me sad in ways that were so easy to explain.
As I was making some soup, I thought about Court, Arte, and Pollo. I had often played with the twins while the Court Master watched. She always wanted to join in, but that was impossible for her.
My thoughts turned to Gammon, the Gardener. I had saved him years ago, and he repaid me by helping out.
I took a seat at the abandoned table, bowl in front of me. Absently, I fed myself, hating myself.
Was it selfish that I wanted to be around people? Or that I didn't want to suffer here for much longer?
It wasn't impossible for a mud doll to die. After all, several had throughout the years. I would just be another body.
Turning in my lonely chair, I looked out the shattered windows. The sky beyond them was as red as blood, with black birds dancing amongst the clouds.
I took another spoonful, wishing that the end would coming sooner than later. Right after I finished my meal, I saw someone head to the Theatre. A woman who had long black hair and a colorful kimono.
Dread settled in my heart. All I could do was return to my room to change into the outfit she knew me best in. This wouldn't end well. I could sense it.
