"Amma, Avan innum thoongaran!" Janani yelled in a high pitched tone, that could be heard even ten miles away. Any normal person could have woken up with a such a tone, but her beloved brother didn't. Instead, he casually rolled to other side of the bed and continued snoring as usual much to her irritation. She stomped her way to the kitchen, huffing in defeat.
(Amma, he's still sleeping!)
"He didn't right?" Her sister in law teased Janani with a victorious smirk, the moment she stepped inside the kitchen. She shook her head in defeat and tried to sneak away, but her sister in law was quick enough to block her way;
"Madam, where are you trying to escape? Take out the bet amount!" she giggled, forwarding her right hand, rightfully. Janani pouted and looked at her sister in law, showing the best puppy eyes she could muster.
"Na pavam la, this time alone forget the bet Anni" she requested giving her puppy eyes.
(Am I not pitiful?)
"No, No!! This time your puppy eyes won't work. Last sunday also you used the same trick, I won't get fooled this time!" she denied, shaking her head.
"Anni.. please..please!! Please!!" she tried buttering her up, but it didn't work much to her dismay.
"This is the last 100 rupee I have, spare me this once please Anni!" Jaanu requested pulling out a old looking 100 rupee note, which was torn at the ends.
"This note is very damaged, I can't accept it" she said looking at the worn-out 100 rupees. Jaanu's eyes lit up hearing her words.
"Apo bet cancel ah?" she asked happily, patting herself mentally, for her ingenious plan. (Then is the bet cancel?)
"No, no, give me two fifty rupees instead" her sister in law smirked, pointing at Jaanu's purse, where fifty rupees notes were very much visible.
"Ah..Anni!" Jaanu whined, pouting sadly.
"Enna, Jaanu innikum bet thothacha?" Savithri chuckled entering the kitchen. Their banter wasn't new for anyone in this house. It was a routine here.
(Jaanu, what happened? Lost the bet today as well?)
Every sunday, Janani challenges Swetha, that she would wake up her brother Kowshik before 8.00 A.M. If she succeeds, she'll get 100 rupees and if not, she has to pay 100 rupees to Swetha. And every sunday, till date, Janani has never won the bet.
Janani's parents are well aware of this bet, but has no problem with it because they know Swetha loves Janani very much, treats her like her sister rather than sister in law. Both Kowshik and Swetya buy her all necessary gifts, fulfills her every single wish.
The most fun part of this is that, her parents take sides in the bet like Savithri supports her daughter in law everytime saying that she has full faith in her son, while Raghu supports his daughter though he knows the outcome of this bet.
"Amma, ask Anni to waive the bet this time alone!" Janani asks in a cute tone.
Savithri turns to Swetha listening to her daughter's request.
"Swethu! Avatha kekuralenu vittudhatha ma" Savithri said giggling and high fived with her daughter in law. Jaanu just made a grumpy face looking at their bond.
(Swethu, don't give in for her cute little puppy eyes!")
"You always support Anni! You love her more than me!" Jaanu whined. Savithri just smiled, knowing that Jaanu wasn't serious.
"Ada, who dares to mess with pappa?" Kowshik asked in a sleepy voice stepping inside the kitchen, after brushing his teeth. The moment Jaanu heard his voice, she immediately took the rolling pin which was nearby and started chasing him around the sofa in the hall, shouting
