"Padma Nilayam"
It was a nice chilly Sunday morning. It was 6.00 A.M. While all neighborhood was still sleeping, the scenario of Padma Nilayam was something different.
Sounds of sloka chantings can be heard.
"Being a girl, be responsible! You shouldn't be sleeping for so long!" Mangalam chided her daughter who woke up half an hour late from her prescribed time that is 5.30 in the morning."Amma, kulurla thoongiten." Anusha replied dreadfully. (Amma, I slept because of cold weather!)
"Don't give excuses! You're going to be married in a few days, so start acting maturely. Anga poi enga manatha vangidhatha!" She scolded and went in to the Pooja room once again to complete her venerations for the day. (Don't let us down, after going to your inlaws house!")
"Sorry Amma!" She apologized, feeling utterly bad.
"Seri, chumma inga ninu vedika pakama Poi kulli, innum vasal vera thelikanum!" Mangalam instructed her daughter who was still sneezing because of the chilly breeze. (Don't stand here and day dream, go and take a shower, we still need to put the kolam yet!)
"Okay ma" she says and walks in to bathroom after taking the necessary items. She had to take hair bath as well.
Half an hour later, Mangalam's husband comes out of his room yawning and stretching himself. He comes and sits on the sofa, feeling sleepy still.
"Anu, go and put a nice kolam, meanwhile let me give your Appa some coffee" Mangalam told her daughter who just stepped out of the shower shivering in cold. Though she had taken bath in hot water, the chilly weather outside was making her feel cold.
"Am-ma! Nee poi podriya. I'm feeling too cold.." Anu requests with a chattery voice. (Can you go and put please?)
"Oh god! This girl.. Okay! Then prepare coffee for Appa and also tea for us. I'll prepare for Aadi when he wakes up. Poor guy, he's sleeping so tiredly." She says sternly and goes to verandah for drawing some Kolams.
Anusha prepares and gives coffee to her Appa and makes tea for both her Amma and herself and waits for her mother to come in. When she comes back, they both have tea together.
As soon as she sips the hot tea, her cold kicks in and she starts sneezing her badly. She gets a moment of breath after several sneezes when her dad says--
"Anu, why do you wake up so early and take bath? Afterall it's a Sunday. You could've slept a little longer. See, the morning weather is showing it's effect." He sounded concerned.
"Ennanga! You don't spoil her. She already woke up late enough today and you are asking her to sleep for some more time.! God!" Her mother says irritated.
"Endi, konja naal la vera vettuku poga pora va. Atleast let her live as her wishes, till she's here!" He defended his daughter. (Hey, she's going to go away from here soon..)
"Exactly, after a few days she'll go to her in-laws house, there they might expect her to be even more disciplined. That's why I am trying to make her be ready for all this. Stop supporting her unnecessarily." She says strictly, while glaring her daughter who was still fighting with her sneeze.
"Pavam ma Ava!" He tries to say but his wife walks away without paying any heed to him. He gives her daughter a pitiful look to which she shakes her head smiling. (She's poor ma..)
"It's okay Appa" she said smiling at him. He feels surprised at her level of understanding.
"Anu, come and help me here" she shouts for her help from the kitchen, so Anu goes to the kitchen and her father continues reading the newspaper.
