For the Time Being...

A tranquil pavilion sat upon a raised platform, jade green vines encircling the dark pinewood structure. Crystalflies hovered lazily around, hardly bothering to move as the two approached.

Childe and Guizhong took a seat at the circular table set up in the pavilion, a tray carrying steaming hot tea and some light snacks set out for their consumption. Childe recognized the tea set as the one Guizhong had received the previous day.

As the tea was poured, he decided to ask about Xiao Ping's message.

"I'm curious, what are these 'samples' that Morax has gone to collect?"

"Ah, that," Guizhong took a sip of her tea, "it is...a side project of mine."

"I see."

Childe watched her with interest, waiting for her to elaborate. However, she simply continued to drink the contents of her cup. He frowned slightly.

"...is that all?"

"Mn. For the time being, that is all I have to say on the matter."

For the time being, huh? Childe quirked his lips.

Guizhong smiled knowingly, but was true to her word and did not elaborate further.

As curious as Childe was about the topic, he could appreciate her frankness. He decided to shift the conversation.

"During my travels, I noticed that the Guili Assembly seems rather peaceful considering everything that is happening. There are signs of war, sure, but nothing like I was expecting."

This seemed to be a better topic, Childe noted, as Guizhong put down her cup and shifted her focus entirely on him.

"Mn, I am not surprised. Not long ago, Morax defeated a powerful god from the northwest. They had rallied many minor gods to their side, but in the end, they stood no chance against us. Following their death, the smaller gods have gone into hiding, which is responsible for the lull we are currently in."

Childe watched as something indiscernible flashed through her silver eyes.

"I have no doubt, however, that they are still watching us closely."

He nodded, "Definitely."

"For now, though, the people are enjoying the peace. I intend to let them do so for as long as possible, they deserve that much," Guizhong's eyes shifted to something over Childe's shoulder, "It seems that our food has arrived."

Childe turned to look. He wasn't sure what he had expected to see, but what was walking on the paved path towards them was definitely not it. The unexpectedly familiar name was on his tongue before he could stop himself.

"Guoba?!"

Indeed, the little orange bear-like creature who was constantly in the presence of Wanmin Restaurant's prodigious daughter was walking towards them. And not just one Guoba, but a whole group. Most were the size that Childe was familiar with, a few of them carrying trays bearing food. However, the one in the center was much taller, probably taller than himself. It was also wearing an apron.

Childe realized his mouth was hanging open and closed it. Then the large Guoba spoke.

"Guoba...? That wasn't on the menu. I could whip some up if you'd like- ah, wait. Guizhong, who is this kid?"

The voice was deep and a bit gravelly. Childe blinked in confusion.

"Marchosias, good morning," Guizhong smiled, "allow me to introduce you, this is Tartaglia. Tartaglia, this is Marchosias, God of the Stove and Soil."
