Joe was my best friend and had been for as long as I could remember. He'd be able to tell you exactly when, where and how we met, but I couldn't.
We did so much together, everyone thought we were a couple, unfortunately we were not. I wished we were, I've had strong feelings for Joe for so long but I know I can't tell him. I could never tell anyone, it took me a long time to admit them to myself.
Joe would often call on me to pick him up from wherever and drop him home, and he'd do the same for me if I ever needed him to - when he wasn't off acting somewhere. He'd been filming somewhere nearby, local to where we lived. We shared a place but slept in separate rooms - of course.
The cast and crew were having a wrap party at a pub near the studio, Joe included. I'd been asleep in bed when my phone rang, I didn't even register what time it was, I gathered it was some ungodly hour in the early morning. Joe had called asking me to pick him up, he clearly sounded like he'd had a bit to drink.
I headed to the pub to go get him, didn't even bother getting out of my pyjamas, I wasn't planning on getting out of the car. Joe was waiting outside when I arrived, and a large grin appeared on his face as I pulled up. He somehow managed to get his lovely, long body into the car without too much of a hassle.
As I made the trip back home, Joe was filling me in on everything that had happened on the set and then at the pub. He got rather excited when he'd been drinking, I'm pretty sure I never got a word in.
When we got home, I had to help Joe out of the car and into the house, for a man of around 6ft tall, he's not one that can handle his alcohol all that well, especially if he's mixed his drinks, which seems to be the case tonight.
I guided him towards his room where he threw himself on the bed, still with his jacket on and still with his shoes on. I went to the bathroom and got him a couple of aspirin and a glass of water, I knew he'd be feeling it tomorrow if he didn't take these tonight.
'Here, take these, it'll help with the hangover you'll undoubtedly get tomorrow.'
'Oh Y/N, what would I do without you?' Joe asked, sitting up to take the pills before lying back down
'Hmmm, you'd be lost without me Keery, and you know it!' I said as I went to shut the curtains, a blinding ray of sunlight in the morning would not go down well
'My world would fall apart if you weren't in it.'
'Bloody hell Joe! That's a bit dramatic isn't it?'
'No, I mean it, I love you Y/N - I always have, I just haven't had the guts to tell you.'
'Yeah, okay, sure you do, that'll be the alcohol talking.'
'It's true, I adore you!'
'Alrighty drunk boy, that's enough talk out of you, I'm going back to bed. I'm sure you can manage to get yourself undressed?'
'Mmmmm.'
I looked at Joe as I got to the bedroom door and he had already fallen asleep. I turned the light off and went back to bed, trying not to think about what Joe had said.

I woke the next day a little later than usual, thanks to my extremely early morning trip to collect Joe. I headed out to the kitchen and turned on the coffee machine, I needed a coffee to wake up and I had no doubt Joe would need one when he woke - whenever that would be.
I was just putting some bread in the toaster to make toast for my breakfast, when Joe came shuffling into the kitchen, wearing nothing but his grey track pants and his gorgeously messy bed hair. He walked up to me and groaned, briefly resting his head on my shoulder before heading to the coffee machine
'Good morning sunshine!!' I said, trying to sound as chirpy as possible, knowing it'd piss him off
He groaned again as he drank his coffee. I put my preferred spread on my toast and handed it to Joe
'Breakfast?'
'Hmm, thank you.' He said taking it from me, quickly devouring it as well as downing his coffee - the first of many for the day
I put more bread in the toaster to make the toast for me this time.
'So, do you remember much about last night?' I asked as I took at bite of my toast
'Only that I drank too much, and that I really should learn not to mix my drinks - it's never good when someone starts buying shots.'
'Oh dear! You won't learn! It happens every time!!'
'I know.' He groaned once again
'Do you remember what you said to me when I helped you to bed?'
'No..........what did I say? I dread to think......'
'You told me you love me.' I said, with a slight smirk on my face, but also secretly hoping he meant it
'Did I?'
'Yep!' I said finishing the last few dregs of my coffee and the last bite of my toast 'Did you mean it? They often say that people speak the truth when they are drunk.'
Joe did his cute Steve look of blinking to look down and then to look back up before turning red - that was confirmation that he meant it. He clearly couldn't get any words out, he was clearly trying to figure out what my reaction to this is. He was leaning against the kitchen bench, trying to read my face.
I walked up to him and put my hands on his and made him bend down to my level and gently kissed him
'I love you too Joe.'
'Really?' He smiled
'Yes, really! I have been in love with you from pretty much the moment we met!' I moved my hands from his face, to his chest.
This time the smile on his face was bigger and he put his hands on my face and kissed me, this time it was full of passion and a want that had been in him for a long time
'I love you Y/N' Joe said as we pulled away
'I love you too Joe' I said as I smiled back up at him before standing on my toes for another kiss
I grabbed his hand and walked him to the lounge, where we spent the day curled up on the couch, together, watching all the cringe-worthy TV we could find, all while basking in the glow of our newly declared love!
