Clear The Head

After all the dramas (drama is a putting it lightly, it was more like a shit show) that had happened in the last few years in Hawkins, it was nice to be able to get out of town for a little while, even if it wasn't that far out. Lover's Lake held too many memories of the past few years and not good ones, so they found somewhere a bit further out of town to go to, the whole gang used it when life, thoughts and memories got too much. It seemed this week had been one of those weeks for the most of them, all meeting up at the lake to just relax, clear the fog from their minds, check in with each other.

Y/N and Steve were sitting next to each other on the sand, while the rest of the gang had splintered off into various groups, the couple hadn't really been paying much attention if they were at all honest. Y/N sat cross legged, running the dry sand between her hands as if they were like an hour glass. Steve was almost mirroring her position. There had been a gentle breeze circling them, but it picked up slightly, causing Y/N's hair to get tangled up in front of her face, with her hands full of sand, she was helpless to do anything, except shake her head in a failed attempt to move her hair , spitting out what got caught in her mouth. Steve leaned over to her and gently swept her hair behind her ear, she followed his hand to look at him. She took in every handsome feature before looking into his eyes,  the love she felt for Steve was reflected in his eyes. No words needed, the look said it all. Their eyes closed as they kissed, both stopping to look at each other again before exchanging several more kisses. They would have deepened had it not been for the frisbee Steve copped to the head, thanks to a dodgy throw from Eddie - which may have been on purpose, despite his argument to the contrary.

The gang was always making fun of the couple, about how loved up they were but there were no other people more happy about the couple than this gang. They'd all gone through so much together, with Y/N and Steve somehow just ending up in the same situations together. Their love for each other evident from the start - well to everyone else that is, more so than to them. Once they were given a gentle nudge in the right direction - that being towards each other, true love blossomed. They made each other happy, they complimented each other, like they were two halves that were meant to be together, they just fit.

Y/N stood up and dusted the sand of herself, needing to stretch her legs. She turned to hold her hand out to Steve, to help him up. The black jeans he was wearing, made the sand that was on him more obvious. Y/N had walked away, towards the water's edge, not realising Steve wasn't behind her. It wasn't until she felt the familiar feeling of his arms wrapped around her waist and his head on her shoulder, that she realised he hadn't been standing with her. They stood just watching the water lap at the shore, the night not quite warm enough for any swimming, the sounds of the gang surrounding them. Y/N turned around in Steve's arms, wrapping hers around his waist as he moved his to her shoulders, wrapping her up tight. A smart ass comment from Robin about how sickly sweet the couple was, earned her a poked out tongue from Y/N. She wrapped herself into Steve even tighter, if that was at all possible, each being the other's comfort when things got too much, when memories and thoughts became too loud. They were each other's safety zone, and forever would be.

A colder breeze than before blowing past them, was their sign to go home as it had caused a head to toe reaction of goosebumps on Y/N's body, despite being wrapped up in the warmth that was Steve. They reluctantly broke their hold on each other and agreed with the rest of the gang that it was getting cold and time to head home, each of the gang walking back to the car the brought them there. None of the gang said anything but they were all thankful for being able to come together like this, that they all needed the sanctuary of each other. It was a reassurance that they had all made it out to the other side of the various forms of hell they had experienced, and that they were all bonded together for life.
