A Birthday Surprise

'Hey babe!' Y/N said excitedly as she answered the phone, seeing it was Joe on the other end.

'Hey my love, I miss you.'

'I miss you too. How's Italy?'

'It's really nice, would be better if you were here though.'

'I wish I was there too, especially with it being your birthday soon.'

'I can't believe I'm not going to get to see you on my birthday.' Joe said, sounding dejected.

'I hate it too but work is just too crazy right now, you know they won't let me take time off.'

'I really wish you'd quit your job, you know I can look after you.'

'Joe.......' Y/N said sternly

'Y/N......just think about it, then you could be here with me.'

'Joe.........' Y/N said again, a bit more hesitantly this time.

'I know you like your independence but if you were with me, you could see the world, and go exploring while I'm working - you would love that!'

'Yeah, I would - look, I'll think about it, it's a big decision to make.'

'I know babe....'

'I've gotta go, speaking of work - I'll talk to you soon, yeah?'

'Yeah, okay. I love you.'

'I love you too, we'll talk soon.'

With that, the call ended. Joe feeling despondent at the fact that Y/N was not able to join him for his birthday and Y/N feeling giddy at the secret she was keeping, knowing that Joe would love it when all is revealed.

Unknown to Joe, Y/N had arranged time off to fly to Italy to surprise him for his birthday. She had been able to contact someone in the crew to let them in on the secret and to help it go without a hitch. She'd been able to get a card to the set, for them to give to Joe but everyone was sworn to secrecy as far as Y/N being there was concerned.

Monday came and with it, Joe's birthday. The end of the day arrived and the cast and crew had gathered to sing him happy birthday and present him with a cake, which he was more than grateful for, but part of him was sad at the fact Y/N wasn't there with him. He had also hoped to hear from her but she had yet to call him. In fact, she wasn't even answering her phone. Joe had no idea why Y/N was ignoring him, nothing bad had happened between them, as far as he knew, but she had been ignoring him or been short with him since their last phone call.

He was handed the card that Y/N had asked to be passed on to him. Joe looked confused at the card as he recognised the handwriting on the envelope, when did she get time to get a card to him? He glanced up at everyone before opening the card and reading it.

'Happy birthday to my darling, Joe.

Happy birthday to my lover, my best friend, my hero, my biggest supporter, my heart, my soul, my life.

I can't even begin to tell you how much I love you, as my love for you grows every single day. You are the most amazing human and you don't even realise it. I watch in awe at how incredible you are, at how you offer love and friendship without expecting anything in return, at how you make people feel good, just by knowing you or meeting you.

I am so thankful to whoever it was in the universe that brought us together, I am so thankful that you are in my life and I wouldn't be the person I am if you weren't. I get to be with the sexiest man around, how lucky am I!!
