That was one of the most pleasant evenings, I had spent till now, especially with a person as old as my father. Who assumes me his daughter, wholeheartedly? We smiled, laughed, and made fun of Veer, significantly about the punch my fist landed upon Veer's right cheek in the circuit mall. "Oh, God! Saira, if you had applied more force, his teeth would have broken." Papi mentioned again and again and laughed out.
"Well, she is a green belt in Karate, Papi!" Shaurya, the intruder of our enjoyment, replied. Then he handed me a white wine bottle to add to my dish. "Here!" and also my mobile. Before I inquire how did he get my mobile he replied spontaneously, "I asked Dharam to get it." Next, he spoke to Papi. "And Veer is on his way, he needs a few papers to get signed by you." Papi still avoided him. "Papi, enough!"
Papi slammed his hands on the kitchen aisle, "Enough. What's enough, Shaurya? You fooled me for four months, how can you expect me to forget that?" He shouted at Shaurya, taking me off-guard.
I apprehended the tension between the two and decided to leave them for a moment.
I lowered the flame of the stove, "Excuse me!"
"You will stay, Saira," Papi demanded.
"But you both need to speak and get along!" I explained, intermittently glancing at them. At this point, I learned one of the most important things is that Papi is the important person in Shaurya's life. They have a strong bond of love which shouldn't get affected.
I walked out of the kitchen, giving them privacy. Though I desperately wanted to know the reason I didn't eavesdrop on their conversation. So, I continued to admire the paintings on the wall of the living room.
"Someone already started their daughter-in-law's duty." A teasing voice of Veer came from behind. When I turned around, his gaze was darting at my Apron. But my eyes fell on the dark-bluish spot on his right cheek. "It's good, that you are getting along with your responsibilities. Shaurya is lucky to have you as his wife!" He knew everything about me and Shaurya yet he is poking me.
"You don't want me to repeat the same stunt and damage your left cheek, do you?"
"Obviously. No"
I crossed my arms and probed, "Why are you behaving arrogantly with my best friend?"
He ballooned his nares, "Say to your BFF to stop calling me Bouncer. She is irritating me."
"Saira. I need your help." I heard Papi calling me out.
"Coming!" I replied before paying back my attention to Veer, "you shouldn't have yelled at her, Veer. She was drunk that night!" I explained while ambling inside the kitchen.
"She is a...fire. It's hard to handle her!" I laughed agreeing with him. Poor Maan took a decision to move on from Preeth's rejection. But she is also a human, maybe she is finding different qualities in her life partner. "But, you knew I hit Shaurya on behalf of you, in the male's washroom after Shaurya spat at you those all words!"
Papi heard them, and fired back a question, "What did he say?"
"Eres un maldito bastardo!" Shaurya muttered something in a foreign language, glaring at Veer. (You are a fucking bastard!)
"Shaurya, if Spanish is your mother tongue then it doesn't mean you keep using them, especially as curses between us," Papi interrupted him. On other hand, I was finding it sexy to hear Spanish from Shaurya's mouth. Who thought he is half-Spaniard and half-Inidan? "Veer tell me what he said to Saira!" Veer grinned ear-to-ear at Shaurya and narrated the complete story, that took place in the male's washroom on the night of my twentieth birthday.
