Chapter 5

My turn roles around as I open my eyes and take a moment to look at who was left. Sorry to the rest I guess. Me and Takumi will walk out of here to live another day. I point my hand over to Akito as the line lights up across the table to confirm my choice before I close my eyes. The next round begins as Akito's picture lights up on the screen and just like I predicted he flips out. He's screaming, kicking, punching, clawing even spitting on the chair. He yells at us all before turning towards me and Kira.

"YOU SHOULD'VE PROTECTED ME" Akito yells thinking Kira was the medic. Kira just sits there smiling slightly as he savours the view to his side. "You would've eventually hindered us all so do us a favour and shut up" Kira says in a relaxed voice while leaning forward onto his hands as he just grins watching the sight unfold. Akito goes silent with nothing to say. It's the first time I think I've ever seen this happen and I do feel a small pull on my heart of guilt but I shake it off. He burns in silence as Ayaka is screaming next to him obviously not enjoying the sight like Kira is.

"So it's pretty obvious what's going on here" Kira says taking the lead again as he looks around the room. "The medic is so self centred they can't even try to save someone other than themselves" Kira starts saying while letting an arm reach around and land on my shoulder. "I'm going to help you all out because I'm such a nice guy" Kira says as I hold back a laugh and keep my faces composed. Hear that guys he's a 'nice guy'.

"I'm the detective so medic you better start protecting me because I'm the most powerful player here" Kira admits as if it wasn't obvious. He seems to forget that there is still a mafia that can in fact kill him. "So I'm safe, y/n here is safe as well as Ayaka" he says while looking over at her. "And that guy over there is safe so shall we sort this quickly" Kira finishes with a smug look all over his face. "I would know if my dear friend Takumi was the mafia so it just leaves you two lovely girls" Kira says while looking over at the other two girls.

"Since you high school kid tried to protect your friend I think you're safe which leaves" he says and raises his hand and points to the girl in heels. "You" he finishes his speech as the girl in heels starts panicking. She calls out everything she has in her before people start voting. As I'm about to raise my hand to cast a vote on her she seems to really show her cards. "IF YOU KILL ME YOU'LL LOSE" she screams out as I wait a moment. "MY LOVER WILL DIE AS WELL THEN YOU'LL BE OUTVOTED" she screams as I freeze up. Fuck I forgot about those.

I start glancing around the room trying to work out who her lover could be but I'm left stumped. "She's lying you know" Kira says to me as I look up at him with worry filled eyes. "I checked Ayaka and she's the lover and look at her, she's not worried at all" Kira says as I glance at Ayaka and she does have a confident face. I can't do much else anyway so I have to vote for the girl with heels even though I'm doubtful. As the votes appear in front her I notice a lack of a vote on her. I look up at the screen to see ten seconds of the round remaining.

I quickly look around the table to see Takumi with a bittersweet smile on his face and his hands hanging by his sides. No it can't be. The one card type that ruins my plan from the very first moment. I could never win with him. I can't cast a vote as I feel my eyes truly well up. "Takumi" I manage to say in a small shaky voice which was genuine. The timer runs to zero as the girl start screaming and laughing that we've fucked it all up and lost.

I don't take my eyes off Takumi as I see the metal on his chair start glowing red. "Takumi no, why didn't you say something" I say as he looks over his confident and powerful exterior melting into the soft and comforting one I knew was underneath. "I can be free now" he says and lets out a warm smile. "You'll carry my memory with you so I'll still experience the world but through your eyes" Takumi says while looking up at the ceiling.

"You're so strong, much stronger than me" Takumi keeps saying as the air fills with the smell of burning skin and blood. "Go and win this for me" he says before falling silent as I hold back actual tears while my body shakes. The voice sounds in saying to close our eyes after two cards with lovers on them flash onto the screen. I force my eyes shut as tears run down my cheeks and I have to cover my mouth to stop the sobs escaping.
