I head down to the security room and make sure to slip away from the crowd that's forming in the pool area. As I get further down the corridors the sound of music and cheers slowly start to fade. Once I think the loud upbeat songs are out of range I head to the door and press my hand to the handle. As I'm about to open the door to the room I can faintly hear some music. It's different from the party songs being played at the main area of the beach. Instead there's a light almost melodic sound coming from further down the corridor.
It reminded me of a piano but sounded more metallic like a glockenspiel but still didn't quite fit that sound either. I get curious and let my hand fall back to my side as I wander down the corridor and follow the light music that creates a fairy like atmosphere around. I get to a room where the noise is at it's loudest point and push it open a crack to see inside. Inside I can see a large open space with windows peering down on the ceiling that let the natural sunlight flood in.
There was a woman in the middle just lying on the floor spread out. At first I do a double take and think she might actually be dead but I catch the small rise and fall of her chest. She looked almost angelic in the way her hair fell perfectly around her head like a halo. The soft sun light lighting up her face with a warm orange colour as I can just about see the sparkle in her eyes as she looks up through the window above at the sky. There was something wrong with the sparkle in her eyes though.
It didn't look like there was a galaxy of wonder behind them but instead it was the look of a deer in headlights. From what I could tell she'd been here a while and has started to come to terms with this life but obviously will never fully settle. There's something deep down that won't accept the fate of being here. Something childlike in the way death causes it to explode and let all those emotions crack through. A lack of emotional control is what it is. She listens to her head and not her heart. That's why every other part of her looks at peace lying there listening to the light sound of tinkling music notes that drift through the air.
I try to look around a little more since I was still only seeing the room through a crack in the door but as I lean forward a little I lose my balance and end up pushing the door open suddenly. As a result of my mistake I quickly reach out and grab at the door to stop it from swinging open even more. For a moment I think I'm safe and she hasn't noticed me but the moment a let a sigh of relief out I hear a light laugh from the woman.
I look down at the floor in defeat now feeling bad for interrupting her alone time. "Sorry I didn't mean to disturb you" I say and let go of the door before standing up and sending her an apologetic look. "Oh no don't worry about it, I'm just trying to pass the time by cloud watching" she says in a deeper voice than I previously expected her to have but it was still soft and comforting. She's definitely been here a while.
Now that the doors open all the way I can see clearly what's making the little musical noise. In the woman's hand sits one of those small wind up devices with a cylinder inside and all those small pieces that stick out. They turn and pull on notes causing the sound to be released. It was a short and repetitive song but it was a pleasant change that I welcomed. "Oh wow where did you find that if you don't mind me asking" I say now captivated by the small musical device sitting in her palm. "Oh this?" she says and lets out another small chuckle at my amusement by the little device.
"It was a present off a friend back when we were in the other Tokyo" she says and holds up the small device as it slows to a stop. "It's beautiful" I let slip from my tongue without realising as I'm honestly shocked that there's one of those in this Tokyo. "I thought it might work since it's not electronic and luckily it does" she says a smile that fits her face perfectly. "Definitely nicer than the shitty music up there" I say as she lets out another small chuckle as I smile back.
