Chapter 34

The days drift by painfully slow after my last game as I have a ton of time left on my visa again. Kuina was often asking me for drinks while Chishiya would come by and check on me before heading off to god knows where. Nothing much of note has happened recently so I'm watching from the roof to see if anything interests me. "Good evening" Chishiya's voice rings out across the open rooftop. I don't look over as I'm standing fascinated by the same routine of the people below.

"You think they live to remind us what we have is actually good" I say as Chishiya slides up next to me and look down as well. "And what do we have" Chishiya asks as I shrug. "We have a clear mind and that should be enough right" I say as he chuckles a little. After what happened with Tama I've noticed that Chishiya has started loosening up around me. I'm still unsure if it's because he's scared I'll kill him or if it's brought him a fucked up sense of comfort.

It doesn't matter much since I enjoy the change in atmosphere. "Kuina picked up some jewellery for you when out last night" Chishiya says and pulls out a few pieces of jewellery which glow in the sunset. "Ooo how fancy" I say and look over as he lets me move around the pieces for s better look. I see necklaces tangled together and a few rings that look as if they'll fall off his hand. "And this one, she said something about matching rings and then followed it up with some dumb reason" he says and in his other hand he holds a black band ring between his fingers.

"It's pretty" I say and reach over as he drops it onto my open palm. "Why the other jewellery then if she picked this specifically" I ask as Chishiya lets the handful of jewellery fall into his pocket. "In case it doesn't fit she said" Chishiya tells me as I slide it onto my second finger as I run my thumb across it and see some words engraved into it. The writing looked like it was done by someone with little to no experience with this sort of work but I can make out the words. It read 'Coffee partner'. I snicker at the personalisation to it as Chishiya raises a brow at me.

"She's very good at gift giving I would rate it a ten out of ten message" I say as he seems confused probably having not noticed the personalisation to the ring. "You didn't even look Aww how sweet of you messenger" I say and hold my hand up and admire the writing. "You know I don't like being left in the dark" he says and grabs my hand and pulls it down towards him. The sudden contact makes my mind go blank. It's not the first time he's done this but it feels so out of character that it will always catch me off guard.

I can only watch as his finger runs over the ring to turn it as he leans over to read the writing. "It's almost as bad as doctors handwriting" he says as I look out at the bridge. "She probably tried really hard to do this" I say and pull my hand away. "It doesn't show" he says and leans again the railing as I wander across the roof to get a clearer view since I could've sworn I saw something move in the distance.

"Don't say to her" I call back as I squint a little as if that'll help me see better. "Come here Chishiya" I say as I see two small figures on the bridge. "Is it just me or do they look like they don't belong" I say and point down at them as Chishiya stands close to me and hums. "I wonder why they're there" he says now interested in the figures. They move along the bridge seemingly trying to stay hidden as they crouch by the barrier. "We'll have fun gathering info, I'm going to let Aguni know" I say as Chishiya hums staring down with a glint in his eye that would be visible from miles away.

I pat his shoulder while walking past and heading to the stairs. I get downstairs and jog around looking for Aguni. "What we running for" Niragi asks as I pass him. He turns and matches my pace as we jog down the halls. "Looking for Aguni, any ideas" I ask as he shrugs while looking down at my hand. "Nice ring didn't know you were the jewellery type" he says as I raise my hand in front of me. "Ye Kuina got it for me" I say as he hums in response.
