Chapter 31

As I stand at the bottom of the stairs frozen for a moment as thoughts of Takumi come into my mind. Why couldn't I save them. I'm silent for a while longer as Kuina's hand falls onto my shoulder as she tries to comfort me. I can only look down thinking if anyone would speak up and tell me this was just a bad dream. I'd go back to all the harassment and acting for Kira to bring back the innocent. "Y/n are you alright" Kuina asks lightly while looking over me for injuries. "I'm fine" I croak out quietly as I take a deep breath while holding onto the card.

Was I the only one to survive that hell of a game? What happened to that other militant that left us? I need to beat him to a pulp for his actions he can't be dead as well right. I sigh a shaky sigh before starting to go down to Tama's now lifeless body. Chishiya lets his hand touch my arm lightly as he only watches my movements unsure of what to say in this situation. Unlike his reaction to Takumi's death he seemed more sensitive to this one.

I look down at his hand and push him off lightly. He doesn't resist against this and lets his hand fall to his side as I crouch next to Tama's body. I give myself a moment to compose myself as I reach out to her open eyes which I can see now were lifeless. The tears I saw before were dried and I can imagine that when I saw them she had died moments before. "I'm so so sorry" I say and pick up the cold exterior I held before.

I've seen plenty of death before but it didn't feel like this. Even Takumi's death wasn't the same. Maybe because I knew deep down at that point he couldn't be saved. Tama could've survived. I want to let my mind run over the possibilities of how she might've survived but that would just be cruel. I can't change the past and that is something I know from reality. I let out a sigh before getting up as I hear footsteps running into the room.

Once I'm on my feet I begin to walk to the stairs as my hand loosely holds the card. The card soaked in blood. Niragi is about to approach me but Kuina stands in front of him and whispers something to him. He falls completely silent as he just stops on the spot. He doesn't say anything as I pass only glances my way then back to Tama's body. My mouth is sealed as I walk up the stairs as my thoughts start to piece themselves back together.

"Kuina fancy a drink" I say through a cracked voice. She nods while giving me a sorry smile. Her arm falls carefully over my shoulder as I feel her hand give me a light squeeze. "I need to talk with the boss but it won't take too long" I say as her eyes gloss over with worry as her steps slow a little. "You sure, I'm sure he won't mind waiting" Kuina says knowing I'm talking about our plan.

I just nod and keep walking as he hand rubs up and down my back. I get to Hatter's room as I knock on the door still feeling gloomy inside. Gloomy was an understatement for sure but if I could just hold back the pure unfiltered pain for a few minutes we'd be alright. The door is opened as I see Hatter all cozy next to some girls. "Ah y/n I'm glad you're back" he says as I nod and pull out the card and place it on the table in front of him.

"Ah you never fail me my angel" he says and looks over the card. "About the matter from before I do have an update" I say as Hatter raises a brow and stays silent for a few moments. "Everyone out" he says and gestures to the spot across from him. People move around as I walk to the sofa space and take a seat. As his people walk past me I look their way as a cover to glance around the room subtly for any sign of the covered camera.

"So what did you find out" he says as the moment the door closes. "The guy showed traitorous behaviour which caused one of our militants their lives tonight" I say as Hatter swirls his glass of alcohol. "I wouldn't know if they had planned this but the choice to side with other people over the beach was undeniable" I say as Hatter sips at the drink. "Due to the nature of the game and the early betrayal I have no way of confirming his death though I haven't seen any sign of him since returning" I explain to Hatter.
