After rushing back into the bedroom I blush.
God this isn't good.
I start getting ready, distracting myself.
I pealed off my leggings, blood pours from my cuts and I panic, I tear the bed sheets of the hotel and tie it round my leg.
I pull the dress on, it's nice. It doesn't cling too much and it's short but the tights will cover me up.
I pull the tights on and they tear.
"No." I freeze. "No, no no no no no." The rip is obvious, it can't be disguised as anything and I can't pretend I'm being 'grunge'.
"May? You okay in there?" Joey's finished getting ready and he's knocking on the door.
"Yeah, I'm fine." I try to remain calm but my voice is high and squeaky and I really don't sound calm.
"You sure? You need help?" He is so sweet. He wants to help me, after I've behaved so... so strangely.
"I'm fine."
"Can you come to the door? You don't sound fine." No, no, no. No I can't come to the door because if I do then you'll see my legs and then you'll hate me.
"No, I'm fine. I'll be out in a bit." I try pulling the tights off but in my panic I fall, he hears and comes in.
"Oh my God May are you o-" he takes in the scene, my legs, the bruises, the words, the cuts.
His face goes through every emotion in the book.
Eventually settling on what I deem as 'motherly'.
"May," he edges towards me like I'm a wounded deer.
I scramble backwards wincing in pain as my leg hits the bed.
"May please, let me help." I'm backed up against a wall so I let him take my makeshift bandage off and he inspects my most recent cut.
"I don't think it needs stitches and even if it did you won't go to the hospital. I have steristrips and plasters so I can patch you up if you'll let me."
I nod. I can't speak, I'm so ashamed.
"Come to the bathroom so we can wash it?"
He helps me stand and we slowly limp to the bathroom.
"Joey mate! Let me in!" I head banging on the door which makes us both jump and he drops me.
I scream out and shut myself up pretty quickly, I shuffle into the bathroom and hide while he answers the door.
"Hey, Joe. How you doing?" I hear Joey's muffled voice through the door.
"I'm good, where's the girl?" Right, I'm 'the girl' now.
"She has a name you know." Bless him.
"Right, May - like the month but a person." I don't get it, is it another reference to their musicals? "What's the deal with her? I haven't seen you act like this over a girl since college?"
There's a deal with me? What's the deal with me? I edge closer to the door, my ear pressed to it and the next thing I know I'm lying on the floor at their feet.
Crap.
My legs...
"Holy..." Joe looks down at me and he won't stop staring at my legs, damn this dress for being so short.
I lie in silence.
What do I do?
What do I say?
Normally I would run but after my close call the other day and being dressed in as little as I am...
"I... I got into a fight?"
"With what? A porcupine!" Joe says, a little loudly.
Oh dear.
