Edmund and I were sitting outside. We were watching the woods, waiting. I had a feeling like something was coming. That something was the Telmarines. Edmund was so focused that when the first Telmarine soldier appeared behind a tree, he ran inside. I stood up, watching as the soldiers marched forward. Peter and Lucy appeared with Edmund and we all stood together, watching. A man in full armor rode to the front on his horse. 'Miraz' I thought. I look at the others and Peter nodded before walking back inside. We followed him to the Stone Table room.

Awhile had passed and Peter had given his plan. That plan included Lucy going into the forest alone. "Cakes and kettledrums! That's your next big plan? Sending a little girl alone into the darkest parts of the forest alone?" Trumpkin responded. Peter looked at him, "It's our only chance." Susan added, "And she won't be alone." Trumpkin walked up to Lucy with a sad expression on his face. "Haven't enough of us died already?" I looked at Edmund who was sitting next to me. Trufflehunter, who was standing in front of me, spoke. "Nikabrik was my friend too, but he lost hope. Queen Lucy hasn't. And neither have I." I heard the sound of a sword and turned to see Reepicheep. "For Aslan," he said softly. Another said "For Aslan!" Peter looked around and then turned to Lucy. Lucy then turned to Trumpkin, "I'm going with you." Lucy put a hand on his shoulder, "No, we need you here." Peter then spoke, causing everyone to look in his direction. "We have to hold them off until Lucy and Susan get back." Suddenly, Caspian spoke from behind Peter. "If I may..." He stood up and walked forward. "Miraz may be a tyrant and a murderer. But as king, he is subject to the traditions and expectations of his people. There is one in particular that may buy us some time." Peter turns to look at Edmund and he stands up, nodding. He looks back at me. "Come with me." I nod and stand next to him. Others agreed to come with and we began to get ready.

Edmund's POV:
I left the How with Y/N, Glenstorm, and Wimbleweather. We were carrying green branches across the field. I could see Miraz standing with a telescope. I turned to Y/N to see how she was doing and she seemed calm. She noticed me staring and turned to me, giving a reassuring smile. I had to deliver a challenge from Peter straight to Miraz. Deep down I was nervous, but I knew I could handle it. As we got closer they walked away and sat in chairs under a tent. Before I went to go inside I turned to the others. "You two wait out here." I motioned towards Glenstorm and Wimbleweather. I then turned to Y/N, who was awaiting my order. I definitely wanted to keep her close to me. "You can stand by the opening right there. You'll be right behind me so you can protect me if anything goes wrong." She smiles and nods. "You'll probably be able to handle yourself, my King." I had never heard her called me her King before, it felt different, but I liked it. I squeezed her hand and we walked to the tent together. She stopped at the entrance while I continued towards the middle. I opened the scroll and began to read. "I, Peter, by the gift of Aslan, by election and by conquest, High King of Narnia, Lord of Cair Paravel, and Emperor of the Lone Islands, in order to prevent the abominable effusion of blood, do hereby challenge the usurper Miraz to single combat upon the field of battle. The fight shall be to the death. The reward shall be total surrender." I rolled up the scroll when done and awaited his response. Miraz glared at me with his empty eyes. "Tell me, Prince Edmund—" I stopped him before he could continue. "King." I heard someone laugh behind me and could tell it was Y/N. Miraz tilted his head at my correction, "Pardon me?" I looked up at him. "It's King Edmund actually. Just king though. Peter is the High King. I know, it's confusing." Miraz hesitated before speaking, "Why would we risk such a proposal when our army could wipe you out by nightfall?" I looked around at all the men sitting by Miraz, "Haven't you already underestimated our numbers? Only a week ago, Narnians were extinct." I turned my attention to Miraz, with a sense of pride. "And so you will be again." I responded back quickly, "Then you should have little to fear." Miraz began to laugh. "This is not a question of bravery." I smiled before saying just another thing that would get under his skin. "So you're bravely refusing to fight a swordsman half your age?" Y/N laughed before covering her mouth, causing me to smirk. Miraz glared at Y/N before leaning over the table. "I didn't say I refused." He seemed very mad at this point. One of the Telmarines caught Miraz' attention. "You shall have our support, your majesty, whatever your decision." Suddenly the man to the right of Miraz spoke, causing him to turn his head sharply. "Sire, our military advantage alone allows us the perfect excuse to avoid—" Miraz aggressively stood up, grabbing his sword. "I am not avoiding anything!" I looked at Miraz. "I am merely pointing out that my lord is well within his rights to refuse."

Y/N's POV:
The man standing a few feet to the left of me spoke. "His majesty would never refuse. He relishes the chance to show his people the bravery of their new king." Edmund turned to face him and quickly glanced at me, still with a smug look on his face. Then he turned back around to face Miraz and he hesitated before raising his sword and pointing it at Edmund. "You." I stepped forward but was aggressively yanked by my arm by the man standing next to me. I glared at him and ripped my arm out of his grip. Everything was silent before Miraz spoke. "You should hope your brother's sword is sharper than his pen." Edmund turned around with a smile on his face. He walked up to me and grabbed my hand, but not before giving the man who had grabbed me a death glare. We walked off and joined the others. On our way back to the How I stood on my tiptoes to whisper in Edmund's ear. "You were amazing back there." He smiled and kissed the top of my head.
