Captain's POV
"Captain...?"
"Yes, soldier?"
I had seen who the General accepted into the program, and I had a few suspicions about who he truly had his eye on. Something didn't feel right about this anymore.
"We have the list of students accepted from the school and have just informed them. We now only need to send the email with details about Saturday's departure. Should we tell them anything else, sir?"
"What else would we need to tell them?" It still surprised me how some of these soldiers were employed to work with us. It didn't look like any of them had any cognitive functioning of their own.
"Sir, shouldn't we tell them what to bring, what won't be allowed, what the program entails, or any other extra information they would normally need to know?"
"No. All that information will be given to them once they are here. We will confiscate any 'illegals' they may bring along—that way we can do deeper research on each of them, too—though I have a feeling I know who will be picked, whatever the cost."
"Yes, sir..."
I sensed her frustration and was not in the mood to deal with it. I had better things to do. Why couldn't the Sergeant deal with this, or was he too busy kissing the General's ass to do his own work? He and his team need to be put in their place. Speaking of... he should actually be here to monitor his team instead of the General having me do it.
"So, what is the problem?"
"Do we tell them the details about the program or not?"
What did I just say?
"No. All you need to include is when and where to meet. Sugar-coat it if you have to, but make it inevitable and very inviting. Oh, and definitely make it sound... fun."
"But sir..."
"What is it, soldier?"
I could feel my agitation rising, and I didn't want to show the Sergeant's team what I am truly capable of. Although, maybe that would help put them in their place and shut them up. I also realized how much the General is influenced by the Sergeant. That is going to be a big problem for us.
The soldier in front of me was starting to show more of her attitude. She definitely resembled her superior in that regard. He needs to go, along with his team. Just because I was labeled "Captain"—purely for my team—my status was actually second only to the General's. I know more than anyone else on the General's board of trusted members. I definitely knew more than the Sergeant... but I wondered.
This reminded me that we would have to get rid of the Sergeant soon. He pushed too much and couldn't keep his mouth shut when it came to spying for the General. He had already mentioned how captivating the chosen one for the program was; even he was growing an interest in her. I would have to mention it to my brother and the rest of the team. He watched us too closely.
"What about their parents? Won't they also need to be informed?"
"Soldier, this is a very private school. All parents are told the moment their children are dropped off that they will not be informed of anything until the child arrives home for the holidays, or if the child gets into serious trouble. In order for the school to do its job, the parents must place their full trust in them, and vice-versa. The only emails sent out are end-of-term reports. That's what makes this school the best in the country and the world.
"So, to sum up your stupid question: no, the parents don't need to be informed, nor will they be until the end of term or when the students 'return' home. Understood? Now go do your job."
