ELECTRIC LOVE; Sam Guthrie

Athena slept comfortably against Sam's shoulder, the distant sound of the tv drowned by her music. Sam didn't mind, he was busy reading a textbook.

They were both on edge after days of buried memories resurfacing. This was the first day they had had a bit of peace, Athena usual sleepiness taking over.

This didn't last long, a howl startling Athena awake, Sam removing her head to rush towards the door, Dr Reyes running past.

"Sam what is it?" Athena stood up, Sam leaving the doorway following the continued howls. Athena groaned as she followed too, the girl hating waking up early.

Athena ran into the back of Sam, the boy stumbling back. Rahne laid on the ground sobbing, another burn mark sizzling on her neck. Roberto ran past stopping beside Sam, his jaw slackening.

"Oh, my God. Is that real? That's real. See, I told you. This shit's real." Roberto's gripped his hair between his fingers.

"I told you weeks ago Reyes!" Athena cursed pulling her headphones down, her other gloved hand tight in a fist.

"What happened to her?" Dani croaked, Illyana glaring hatefully at the new girl.

"You happened. It's Dani. It's all Dani." Illyana spat, Reyes moving Athena aside to stop Illyana.

"I didn't do anything." Dani defended, Athena feeling somewhat sympathetic that Dani was about to face Illyana's wrath.

"You brought this evil here! I now know your power, new girl. Let me show you mine." The metal clicked along Illyana's arm, Sam pushing Athena back who went to stop Reyes from pulling something out of her pocket.

"Illyana, no powers!" Reyes muttered strictly, Sam's voice telling Athena to calm down, not working successfully.

Illyana swung her sword towards Dani, Dr Reyes quick to act injecting a sedative into Illyana, Athena weaving past Sam.

"Don't try anything." Reyes swivelled her head to Athena, forcefields appearing on Athena's wrists stopping her from removing her gloves.

"She's in our heads. She'll kill us all." Illyana's voice rasped, the older girl losing consciousness. Athena cursed moving back to her room, the restraints disappearing once she made it back to her room.

Athena pulled her headphones back on, falling back asleep. When she woke back up, her headphones had slipped off but music played through the compound.

"What the hell." Athena rubbed her eyes sleepily, moving her headphones off the bed. She quickly got changed out of her oversized tee, into a singlet and shorts setting out to investigate the noise.

The music wasn't anything she had ever heard, it was creepy and haunting. Athena's fingers ran along the wall drawing currents through the wall to her fingers. She had left her gloves in her room, hoping she wouldn't  run into Reyes.

Athena called out into the compound a few times, no response returned. Abruptly, Illyana's screams sounded near the cafeteria, Athena tensing up nervously.

Her feet picked up the pace, Athena arriving to the hall before the cafeteria. She moved slowly forward, glancing in each room for a sign of life.

Something wasn't right she could feel it. The room was growing hotter, and sweat had begun to bead on Athena's brows.

Athena heard a noise behind her quickly turning around. There is was. In front of her, a burning person moved steadily towards her. It was one of Berto's biggest fears, his ex girlfriend.

The burning girl repeated Roberto's name rapidly, Athena frozen in her feet. She was growing crazy, how could she see this figure so clearly.

She considered giving up and just letting her mind fade. But her hands disagreed electricity sparking from the ground into her fingertips.

"If i'm going to die it may as well be before I lose my mind."
