Later in the day, teachers and students gathered at the Goblet of Fire to select the Champions.
"Who do you think will be the champions?", Theodore asked me as he sat down with me and I pondered.
"From Durmstrang, it's definitely going to be Viktor Krum, no doubt about that at all. For our champion, I would have put my money on Harry Potter, but since he's too young...", I said thoughtfully.
Who else could it be?
"Well, maybe Diggory from Hufflepuff. He also seems to be quite popular with the girls lately, too.", Theodore said and I laughed softly.
"I hardly think the Goblet will be swayed by that."
Tensely, we turned our attention to Professor Dumbledore.
One by one, the goblet spat out slips of paper, which looked pretty cool and
Professor Dumbledore caught them with ease. Champion for Durmstrang was indeed Viktor Krum and for Beauxbaton a girl named Fleur
Delacour.
Now it was the Hogwarts Champion's turn.
"Cedric Diggory!", Professor Dumbledore shouted and I looked in disbelief at Theodore, back to the goblet and back to Theodore.
"I take it all back. The goblet can be swayed by something like that."
Theodore grinned and after a short while the goblet spewed out another note out.
Strange.
All three champions had already been chosen.
"Harry Potter...", Dumbledore read aloud and pretty much all eyes turned to Harry.
"I knew Potter would have to draw all the attention to himself again.", Draco
said, who was sitting in front of us, to Crabbe and Goyle and I slapped him on the back of the head.
"People die in this tournament, Draco. I don't think he threw his name in
there.", I said, really feeling sorry for him.
If I imagined that Draco or Theodore would have to participate in this
tournament...
I shook myself.
Horrible idea.
"Are you seriously defending Potter right now?", Draco asked stunned and I rolled my eyes.
Slowly, the crowd had quieted down again as the flames of the goblet glowed red again and another note flew out.
Really? Another one?
Professor Dumbledore was about to go to the back of the room, but came back and reached for the note. Frowning, he looked in our
directionand my gaze automatically wandered to Draco.
This couldn't be true, could it?
"Y/N Malfoy.", Dumbledore read out and I blinked in perplexity.
I'm sorry, what?
Theodore and Draco looked at me, but I just stared transfixed at Dumbledore.
This was a joke, wasn't it?
"Miss Malfoy.", I heard Snape's cold voice and he motioned me to go to the
front.
Like a robot, I walked past Dumbledore into the room where the other champions were still waiting.
"Three champions for Hogwarts?", Madam Maxime asked indignantly and I didn't know at all where to put myself.
"Did you put your name in the cup,
Y/N?", Dumbledore asked me insistently and I shook my head eagerly.
"I'm not tired of living after all. I don't even want to participate in this
stupid tournament.", I said honestly.
I had no desire to die early.
"You all know the rules.", the minister said. While the teachers all looked
serious, I looked around in confusion. Fine, but I didn't.
Could someone fill me in?
"You must attend, Miss Malfoy.", Professor Snape said, and I nodded.
"I see... and what if I don't want to?", I asked and the minister looked at me
sternly.
"Once chosen, it cannot be reversed."
"Great.", I said sarcastically and crossed my arms.

"Are you actually completely insane?!", Draco snapped at me as I walked into the Common Room and I turned on my heel.
No.
Draco grabbed me by the collar and pulled me back.
"Why did you throw your name in there?!"
"I did NOT throw my name in there! I don't even want to participate!", I
yelled back and he snorted.
"Then don't join in!"
Annoyed, I sat down on the couch, grabbed a book and ignored him.
If I didn't have to join in, I wouldn't either!
"What's going on here?", Theodore asked and Draco glared at him angrily.
"It's none of your business, Nott. Now get lost!"
"Stop yelling at Theo, he didn't do anything to you!"
I would love to throw some kind of curse at Draco right now.
He was making me furious.
Draco tensed his jaw and rushed off.
I leaned back and put the open book over my face.
This was the first time in my life that Draco had yelled at me like that....
I was overcome by tears and I felt awful.
"Are you okay, N/N?", Theodore asked me worriedly and I silently shook my
head.
Nothing was okay at all.
I felt him sit down next to me and reached for the book.
"Don't...", I sobbed and put my hand over his.
I didn't like it when I cried. It always made me feel so weak.
"Densaugeo...", Theodore whispered, putting his other hand on mine.
"Look at me. Just for a moment.", he said and somehow his pronunciation
sounded strange.
I pushed the book aside a bit. Theodore grinned at me stupidly
and when I saw his huge incisors, I started to laugh.
"What... did you do? You look terrible.", I laughed and he tilted his head at an angle.
"What do you mean? I'm incredibly attractive, aren't I?", he said proudly and I just couldn't stop staring at those teeth. It looked so surreal.
Theodore took my face in his hands and wiggled his eyebrows.
"Give the big-tooth a kiss."
Laughing, I freed myself from his grip and jumped up. He rose as well and I
ran behind the couch.
"Don't you dare!", I admonished him, raising my finger.
"Or what?", he asked provocatively, chasing me around the common room. I jumped on the armchair and gasped for air. I was completely out of breath by now.
"Give me... give me a break.", I said, but Theodore kept coming closer.
I wanted to jump from the armchair over the table back onto the couch, but I only reached the edge and threatened to fall backwards. Theodore quickly caught me and I looked at him, still breathing heavily.
"Hey...your teeth are back to normal."
"The spell doesn't last too long.", he said, shrugging his shoulders and set
me to my feet again.
Theodore sat down and pulled me to him on his his lap.
Tired, I leaned against him and closed my eyes while he ran his hand through my hair as if it were a matter of course.
"Thank you, Theo.", I said.
In response, he intertwined his fingers with mine and breathed a gentle kiss on the back of my hand.
