Just a reminder. Italics at the start of chapters are flashbacks to camp. I hope you enjoy xx

I sat in the backseat of my parent's car, wishing that I could have been anywhere else but here. My dad was taking my suitcase out of the trunk whilst my mother was talking to another woman, probably about typical motherly stuff like if they packed enough socks or if their children might not have enough to eat.

I took a deep breath before stepping out the car. The smell of lake water and wood overwhelmed me. I stood in front of the gate to the summer camp that my parents were forcing me to go to, frowning. A huge sign was positioned in front of me which read 'Camp Cali'. It was carved into the dark wood in bold letters, significantly lighter than the rest of the sign. My parents walked up next to me, both giving me their best smiles.

"I just know you're going to love it here." My mother put her hands on my shoulders before hugging me.

"The leaflet said that there will be a pool, you'll share your room with one person, and you get 3 meals a day with lots of snacks." My father was reading off of the Camp Cali booklet in his hands. "It's amazing, isn't it, tesoro mio?"

"Amazing." I repeated sarcastically.

"I'm going to miss you so much, sweetheart." My mom kissed my forehead, her eyes getting watery.

"Please don't cry." I groaned. "You wanted me to come here, remember?"

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry." She wiped her tears, being careful to not smudge her eye makeup.

"We are just really happy that you're being mature about this, amore mio." Dad smiled. "We know how much you didn't want to come here but we think that a new environment is what's best for you. We don't want you staying in your room watching Netflix everyday like last summer. Your mother and I will miss you. We love you so much."

"Right, well, I guess I'll see you guys in a two months." I said, hugging them. "I really will miss you."

Of course, I would miss them. My family were everything to me.

"Bye honey!" They said in unison. They stood at the entrance, watching me as I walked inside the campus.

There were teenagers sitting on wooden tables, people playing with frisbees, people getting food from various snack tables, people dipping their feet in the lake. The grass looked pure, the lake looked cold and the sky looked unnaturally blue. It looked like those 'foresty' summer camps you see on TV except it was a bit more modern. There wasn't going to be any sleeping in tents, or sitting on logs around a small fire. I guess you could say it was a bit fancier than that. That didn't change the fact that I still did not want to be there.

"Hello!" A cheery blonde woman said as she threw her arms around me, squeezing me tight. She was wearing a yellow tank top, blue shorts and black flip flops. "Welcome to Camp Cali. Have you signed in yet?"

"Um, no." I awkwardly tried to escape her tight grip. "Not yet."

"The camp reception is right there. All you have to do is tell them your name and they will direct you to your cabin which you will be sharing with another girl." She pointed to a small brick building a few metres away from us.

"Thank you." I smiled, trying to be polite.

"You're absolutely positively welcome! Have a great day." She laughed before what looked like she was interrogating another girl that came in behind me.
