~last chapters ending~

"How are we gonna get out now though?? These gates and walls are huge!" I immediately recognized it was Janas's voice.

"I'm not sure. We have to find a way though, we can't lose hope now."

I want to help them. No, I HAVE to help them.

I build up the courage to step out of my hiding spot, hesitantly facing them.

"I can help."

~chapter 9: Secrets and the truth~

(Y/N) POV

I and the others stared into each other's eyes for a bit before Evelyn spoke up.

"(Y/N), I can't believe you... you joined these people!" She spat at me with a disappointed tone. I don't blame her, after all, I joined the same people that caused all this chaos all over town.

My gaze lowered to the ground, the feeling of betraying someone becoming twice as big. First I betrayed them, and now Tord.

"I-I'm sorry... I had no other choice, I know I betrayed your trust, but...". My heart started filling with determination. I'm determined to get them out of here safely. "I'm gonna make it up to you guys, I'll get you out of this hell hole. Even if it means going behind the back of the people that took me in".

I glance over at the green-hooded man whose name I didn't get to catch yet. He gave me a grateful smile and nodded.

"But, wouldn't that put you at risk? You could get thrown back into that cell, or even worse!" Jana exclaimed. She's right, but that won't change my mind.

"Listen, this is the only way I can make it up to you guys. follow me, I know a way to get out without being caught" I motioned for them to follow me. They seemed hesitant at first, but shortly after followed along.

After some risky encounters, we arrived at a gate that had a broken gate with only a lock keeping it together.

"Pat told me about this broken gate and that it has to get fixed, there's a weak spot that makes it easy to open even with the lock on it. It's extremely heavy, so as soon as I open it, run through as fast as you can and get out of here!" I turn to look at them one last time, Janas eyes filling with tears, Jens smiling sadly and Evelyn looking out for any danger.

But before I opened the broken gate, I looked over at the green-hooded guy. "I didn't catch your name yet".

"It's Edd, we better hurry now. I can tell you more tomorrow at the lake" He explained, to which I nodded.

With all my strength I lifted the broken gate a bit, making a gap big enough for them to go through, and so they did. One after another they ran through. I watched them as they rushed into the dense woods, waving goodbye before heading back into the main building.

Tords POV

He came back, tsh of course he did. And this time he managed to free (Y/N)s friends.

"Sir, we couldn't find them. We sent out troops to roam around the forest to look for them. It seems like they left the campus". I look up at Paul as I sit on my chair.

How am I supposed to tell (Y/N) that her friends took off running to god knows where?! She will think they're in danger, what if she won't trust me anymore after just letting them run loose in this current situation?! I did tell her, chances are they'll get killed. I can't tell her, but if I don't she'll find out for herself and probably get upset with me, even mad.

I let out a frustrated and annoyed sigh. "Make sure they'll be found again. And inform all troops not to harm them." I ordered from Paul. He gave me a nod before I dismissed him to go back to his position.

I can't keep this secret from (Y/N). If I want her to trust me, I have to tell her.

Sometime later after the group escaped, I encountered (Y/N) In the hallway. She seemed quite nervous, does she already know?

"(Y/N), can I speak to you in my office?" I spoke as she walked past me. I look back at her to see her slowly turn toward me. "Oh, Sure".

We made our way to my office. I unlocked and open the door for her, walking towards my desk and leaning against it as she closed the door behind her.

"(Y/N)..." I quietly looked down, hesitant to tell her about her friend's escape. Eventually, I did find the courage to look her in the eyes and tell her. "... Your friends, they escaped," I spoke quietly, trying to keep a professional tone. But I couldn't hold it for long. This guilt I felt, knowing they could be in danger, grew in me. A silence that felt like it lasted forever filled the room, along with tension. "They did?" She spoke up. "Where are they now?? Are they okay?" Her voice started filling with worry. "I don't know. I sent troops out to find them, I especially ordered them not to harm them." My attempt to stay professional finally wore off. My gaze turned towards the side. I was unable to face her now. "(Y/N), I'm sorry. I promised I would protect them for you." I frowned.

(Y/N)s POV

Tord pulled me into his office to tell me, Jens, Evelyn, and Jana escaped. Of course, I knew that already, I helped them after all. And yet, the worry when I asked where they are and if they are okay was real. I don't know where they went, or where Edd took them.

I was forced out of my thoughts when I heard Tord speak up again, apologizing. His frown clearly showed he feels guilty for not being able to keep his promise.

"Tord, you don't have to worry about that now." I let out a sigh. "The only thing that matters now is making sure they're safe and okay, that's all I want." He did what he could. After all, it's not his fault they got out. It was me and Edd that helped them out of campus.

After saying that, I could see Tords expression change from worry to surprise as he looked back at me. "I still feel responsible for this. After all" "-you promised it, I know." I interrupted him. I start walking towards him with crossed arms, looking up into his grey eyes. "Don't stress yourself out. Promised or not, it's not your fault... partly." I mumbled the last word, but loud enough for him to understand, to which he pouted. "partly?" He asked. I couldn't help but laugh a bit at his reaction, it was... kinda cute. "You caused this chaos after all, so yes, partly." I gave him a wink and a comforting smile. "Now it's just about finding them, wherever they are." Tord gave me a nod, probably not realizing his cheeks were getting visibly red. I would've never thought I'd start taking a liking to the same man that saved me and took over an entire town. I guess some things are inevitable.

Tord probably realized his face was getting red from my slight smirk, to which he let out a fake cough and looked to the side. "R-Right. You're dismissed now." He tried keeping his composure. I let out a giggle before walking toward the door. As I was about to open the door, I heard the horn-haired man speak up behind me. "A-And, (Y/N). Thank you." I have to admit, it put a big smile on my face, which he luckily wasn't able to see, but probably hear. "I don't know what for, but you're welcome" It was my last reply before leaving his office. As soon as the door behind me shut again, I let out a sigh.

For how long will I be able to keep the act that I wasn't part of the escape?

I questioned myself. Not all secrets stay secrets, eventually, I'll be found out. But I can't let my friends down.

The rest of the day I continued my usual routine, spending some time with Paul and Pat, some food, the usual. As soon as nighttime rolled around, I plopped onto my bed. Tomorrow at 6, was the only thing I could think about. Is it a good idea to go? Giving myself more secrets to keep, going behind Tords back once again. I'll feel bad, especially after our talk today. It did get to him having to tell me about my friend's escape. He seemed very hesitant and nervous, it even broke his hard shell. I wonder if he has tried to keep it a secret from me the whole day just so I wouldn't be upset. But who am I to talk about secrets?

I guess tomorrow I have to decide...
