There were going to be around 12 house-officers for these three months. Kinza could not remember all of their names but she knew some as her batchmates, whereas the rest were last year's graduates.
It was Kinza, Ayesha, Talha (a tall, slender guy with rectangular glasses much like the frame of his face), Mishal (a quiet girl with a head scarf donned on her head, who barely made any eye-contact and kept her eyes glued to her phone) and Imtesal (he was actually not from their batch but Kinza knew him from medical school).
Imtesal had joined Psychiatry to do his deficit, also because he was bored of staying at home and studying for his JLEs (Jamaican Licensing Exam). He, however, seemed more interested in Mishal. His eyes kept darting towards her phone and her, probably in hopes of trying to initiate a conversation but probably not knowing how to start it.
The rest included Kazi (a house-officer from China), he had a cap snapped back on his head and he was more interested in noticing the males than any of the others, Humayun, Ifreen and Simra.
Dr. Rena entered the room, and started giving out instructions. Everybody will be assigned 2 beds each. I will be putting up the list on the board. 'Imtesal, you have the patient Ilma, the one who urinates on the floor every morning,' Make sure her daily urination spot is cleaned before the rounds. We do not want Dr. Haris angry. Imtesal groaned and made a sullen face. You all will also beassigned your bed PGs (post graduates/residents). Imtesal seemed much happier seeing his name next to Mishal's when he saw that both of them will be under Dr. Mohen Das' supervision. Kinza and Ayesha were assigned with Dr. Anum.
'You all will be in charge of taking morning histories, putting in follow-ups and taking patients for their blood tests. I will also be putting up the calls-rota up on the board.' No house-officers will be on call on Saturdays so that's good for you all!' Kinza noticed that the only PG on call for Saturday nights was Dr. Rena herself. That was quite strange, but who cares. Atleast the weekends were off for them.
Before Dr. Rena could leave, two new male houseofficers entered. One was Seynish and the other was Gulrin. 'Hi, sorry we're late'. Seynish drawled slowly, with not a care in the world. Dr. Rena glared at them, angry that now she would have to remake the whole bed rota and call-rota. Seynish used to be very famous in the campus for providing all types of weed to students. Weed and rainbow cigarettes were his speciality, and were quite popular amongst students. It was quite surprising to see him graduate, but despite his regular substance use he had quite the grades. And recently had just quit using drugs. Now he only sold them.
