Chapter 2: Recovery & Opening Up

A few days went by and Lo'ak's foot felt better. The swelling went down a bit, his foot was still a bit bruised and there was still a little swelling left. His parents didn't allow him to do much. His chores were distributed amongst his siblings, the chores that required a lot of standing and walking. Not that he had much chores to begin with.

He helped his mom prepare meals while his father, Neteyam and occasionally Spider went hunting. He missed visiting Payakan but his parents kept a close eye on him because of his foot. He wouldn't be able to get away without being noticed.

After breakfast, his siblings went out to swim while he stayed in the marui. His mother left to learn more about Metkayina tonics and healing substances with Ronal so he was left alone.

Honestly, it was boring. He sharpened his spear, weaved some more, he ran out of things to do without being able or allowed to walk much. He hobbled out of the marui and dipped his good foot into the water. His bad foot was laying on its side, he didn't want to get the cloth wet. He heard footsteps and turned to see his father.

His father sat down beside him, dipping his feet into the water.

"How's your foot?" He said.

"Better, still kinda achey." He replied to his dad.

"Hm. How's Tsireya?" His dad questioned, grinning a bit.

Lo'ak didn't know whether his cheeks felt warm because of the sun or because of the mention of Tsireya. Lo'ak's never really had a crush before, Tsireya being the first. They spent a lot of free time together and she came with him to visit Payakan a few times. She even visited him a few times, checking up on his foot. He thinks his dad noticed.

"She's good." He answered.

"Did I tell you the story of how I met your mother?" His dad said.

"No." He slightly smiled at his dad.

"Before I was fully an avatar, one of the first times I became an avatar, I met your mother. I was wandering through the woods, scoping everything out. She surprised me, tried to kill me." He chuckled at that.

"Over time, we spent more time together. Fell in love and became mated under the Spirit Tree." He smiled. "Sorry son, you probably don't want to know when or where your parents mated." He laughed.

Lo'ak laughed too. "I..." He hesitated opening up to his dad, but he knew his father loved him and he loved him back. "I've never really liked a girl before. Or anyone for that matter. She makes me feel warm inside, happy. I want to ask her out but I'm kinda scared."

"Your mother played a little hard to get. You just have to be yourself and do it. I see the way she looks at you. It's the way your mother looks at me. Between you and me, Tonowari said she likes you a lot." His father wrapped an arm around him, resting it on his shoulder.

Lo'ak smiled and leaned into his dad. His dad could be tough on him, but he was happy he could open up to him. He was happy for his family.

Thanks to his dad's support, maybe he'd ask Tsireya out soon.
