My cell phone's constant ringing woke me from my sleep. I looked at the screen and saw the unfamiliar number. I slip out of bed carefully and walk into the hallway. I crack the bedroom door and answer the phone.
"Hello?"
"Is this Naomi?"
"Yes. Who is this?"
"So now you don't recognize your future sister in law's voice? Shame on you MiMi."
"Danielle! How are you, boo?"
Danielle was Malik's oldest sister and my personal favorite of his sisters.
"Good. Sorry for calling you at such a late time. I just recently got your proofs back, and I wanted to let you know that they would be ready by this upcoming Tuesday."
"Okay. Thank you so much Dani, and get some rest baby. You work so much that I'm carrying some of your stress too."
"Okay. Let me know when you find out the gender of your baby so I can plan the baby's photo shoot."
"Okay boo. Good night, well morning."
"Sweet dreams mommy to be."
I hang up the phone, and my baby starts kicking. I giggle and rub my stomach.
"Mommy?" Amar says, groggily.
I turn around to see Amar walking down the hallway.
"Yes baby boy?"
"Why are you awake?" He asks, rubbing his eyes.
"I just had a phone call. Why are you awake?"
"I couldn't sleep. I'm too excited about tomorrow?"
"Why?"
"Because it's the last day of school tomorrow, Mommy."
I giggle and grab his hand. We walk downstairs and he sits at the island.
"Well I can see how that could be exciting."
"Yea. I'll be going to the third grade in August. I'm getting old."
I burst into laughter at my son's comment. He doesn't know a thing about getting old. I go into the freezer and grab my carton of cookie dough ice cream. I grab two spoons and give one to Amar.
"What's so funny, Mommy?" He asks, taking a spoon.
"Nothing baby. I guess you are getting old. I remember when you first learned how to say Mom. You used to hit my shoulder and say 'Ma Ma Ma'. You were such a cutie."
"I'm still a cutie, at least that's what Mina tells me."
"Who's Mina?"
"A girl in my class. She was my wife in the Spring play."
"Oh! The little girl with the pretty long hair."
