"Mommy!"

"Yes Amar?"

"Have you seen my purple dinosaur? I need it to go to Jamie's house," he asks sitting at the island in the kitchen.

"No baby. I haven't seen it. Did you leave it at Jamie's house the last time you were there?"

"I can call and ask," Amar says getting up from the island.

"Okay. Make sure you have your stuff ready. I'll be ready to go soon."

"Okay."

I finish putting the last piece of steak in the tray, and I stick the tray in the oven. I put the salad in the refrigerator and put the lemonade in the freezer. I wash my hands and grab my keys off the coffee table.

It's been two years since I left Trey and I had been staying with Malik ever since. At first, it took me a while to trust him, but Amar warmed up to him real quick. Malik would always try to make me feel like I was safe, but I always had some doubt in my mind. I had tried on so many occasions to leave, but seeing how Amar and Malik connected made me want to stay. So I did and now I'm engaged to Malik, and we have a baby on the way.

"Mommy, Jamie said that my dinosaur is at his house so we can go now," Amar says, coming out with his bag and blanket.

"Okay, let's go."

I cut on the alarm and walk out the door and to the car. Amar gets in the back and I start the car and pull off.

"Mommy, when is the baby going to be here?" Amar asks.

"The baby will be here in five more months baby."

"Is it a boy or a girl?"

"I don't know yet. Mommy will have to see."

"Oh. Okay."

I look in the mirror to see him staring out the window just taking in his surroundings. I felt bad after taking him away from Trey and his family, mostly because they treated him like he was one of them. I was the only outcast mostly because I didn't like his family. His family was just filled with drug dealers, ratchet females, and badass kids. I never wanted Amar to be like them and neither did Trey. Trey took care of Amar like he was his own. It was only when he was mad that he would say shit about Amar to piss me off, but he never meant it. At least I don't think he meant it. Malik's family took Amar in too, but they seemed just too bougie for me. Always had their noses tooted in the air and always looked down on me. Malik was never like that though. He was the balance that I needed. Proper when needed but laid back and hood whenever. We pulled into Jamie's driveway and see him and his mom standing on the porch.

"Amar!" Jamie shouts.

"Jamie!" Amar shouts.

They act like they didn't just see each other at school. I laugh and waddle out of the car.

"Hey Naomi," Melani says, hugging me.

"Hey Melly," I say, hugging her back.

"Girl, are you sure you're pregnant, cause you don't look like it, especially with you being four months. I thought I would at least see a little bump."
