Genya's POV
"Hi". is all she says while nervously tapping her finger together, interlocking and unlocking them together.
She doesn't deserve this treatment and Genya knows it. Deep down she knows eventually she will have to talk to her. To explain why she keeps avoiding her, why for some unknown reason she had this anger inside of her.
But she couldn't, she couldn't bring herself to tell Alina why she was mad, how betrayed she felt that Alina had gone with Mal so easily and just left everyone behind.
But she had also seen first hand the manipulation and control Mal had over her, she knew perfectly well that it wasn't Alina's fault. That Mal had probably convinced her of something stupid like that Genya no longer was Alinas best friend.
Still, she couldn't help being mad when she felt that Alina constantly fell for the same trap over and over. Genya also didn't want to explain why she suddenly was siding with the darkling, nor explain how confused she was that the darkling had apologized to her for giving her to the King and Queen all those years ago.
It was a crappy apology and didn't nearly make up for all the shit he had done, but it was the fact he had said something. That he had even admitted that the action was wrong.
That was the thing about the darkling, his actions were wrong but his intentions had no flaws. They all made perfect sense for why he did something but his actions were all messed up.
Why did he create the fold, he didn't want to wait around for someone else to save the Grisha when he was perfectly capable himself. Why did he not want to destroy the fold, what else was keeping the Shu and Fjerbans from mass slaughtering everyone.
And from what she gathered from David and Feydor, the darklings childhood wasn't really flowers and daisies per say.
Genya drew in a deep breath, "Hello Alina." she hadn't meant to sound so rude but she had. She sounded like a bitch. But that was alright because right now she really felt like being one too.
Alina nodded back, her throat bulging with a hard swallow. "I'm just heading back to my room." Genya gave a rough sound of acknowledgement, before stepping forward noand slightly sideways. Pushing past Alina and beginning to stride down the hallway, she heard Alina call out behind her, but she was promptly ignored.
Genya deeply fought the urge to walk any faster than a brisk stride, she could feel Alina's eyes follow her. If she had been a heartrender she probably would have felt Alina's heart pick up and skip a beat.
She made it to her room, storming in and she threw the door shut behind her. David jumped from where he was tucked safely under the covers. He gave her the sweet smile that she had fallen in love with, and was somehow still falling in love with.
Her body hazily seemed to float over to him, she cupped his face with her hands and gave him a slow, kind kiss. The type teenage girls always imagined as their first but rarely ever got.
After a few more sweet peaks to various places on his face, she wandered over to her desk when she noticed a little envelope lay in the middle.
"What is this David?" she flipped the letter over in her hands, examining it for any sign of who it was from. "Hmm- oh, i have no clue, it was laying in front of the door when I got here. It looked like it was for you." David yawned, not giving it very much attention.
Genya shrugged before slipping it open, and she began to read. She quickly realized who it was from. Her eyes quickly scanned the words, barely reading full sentences of what was written. "I'm sorry" so was she, "I don't know what I did" neither did she. When she finished the final sentence she collapsed onto the floor. A deep sob being ripped from her shaking form, David rushed over to hold his beloved wife as she wept.

Genya had been thinking of all the best ways to talk to Alina, on how she could ever possibly make it up to her. It has been stupid, to ignore her like this. Genya had known Mal was a manipulator, she had seen it for a time, but she had been too preoccupied with hating the Darkling she hadn't noticed the monster sleeping next to her best friend.
A heavy sigh escaped her lips as her mind raced. She hadn't eaten or slept for two days, David was the only reason she had any water in her system, she was distraught, to say the least.
When walking back to the room her and David shared she paused, watching through a clearing she saw Alina training with Ivan. Beads of sweat poured down Alinas face, her breath was quick and weighted, she would dogued and attack back with light.
Genya was memorized by the rhythm and smooth motions they both moved, she moved gracefully and resembled nothing of what she used to know as her best friends. Realizing how much both of them had changed, still there was a small sting of betrayal that she felt.
When the two paused for a break, Genya's eyes met Alinas. There was a tremendous silence between them, and she took the first step forward.

Alina's POV
After weeks of not talking to her best friends it was a breath of fresh air to just sit in silence with one another for a little while. She hummed contently and walked into the war room, she noticed Alexander leaning over the desk. His hands gripped tightly, knuckles turning white with the force.
Part of her body condemned her for not walking back out, but instead she walked closer to him. "I have a request."
Alexander's head whipped around, his form slightly relaxing when he recognized her. She examined him, his typically neatly cut hair was slightly grown out and messy, dark circles encased his beautiful quartz eyes. He was coming undone for some reason.
And she planned on finding out why- "You look like shit," she stated, blunt as ever. He chuckled darkly. "Really? I was unaware" he mocked, sarcasm lacing every word. "Its good to see you Alina, I thought you might have died in that room of yours."
"Very funny, maybe if you ever ate with your grisha you would see me." she shot back, but the slightest smile tugged at her lips. It felt good to bicker with someone, to remind herself that others outside of her small friend group existed. But she doubted that Alexander could count as someone she didn't socialize with on a regular basis.
His lips pulled slightly upward in the slighted hint of a grin before he countied, "What did you need." She quickly swallowed, the previously almost friendly setting had faded. She pursed her lips, trying to keep a gaze with the dark haired male in front of her.
"I need you to teach me how to ballroom dance." she managed, before looking away from him. She could feel his cold stair piercing through her, and her breath hitched slightly.
"Pardon?" he questioned, not sure he was hearing her correctly.
"Well no one else could do it because they haven't been to that sort of formal event and you said I was your second and would attend you to this advent and I don't know how to dance since I was so busy trying to kill you and-" her rambling was finally cut of by Alexander's answer.
"As you wish it," he nodded turning back to his work. Her jaw dropped at his answer, having expected him to call her ridiculous. She was quickly ushered out by him and as the door swung shut she heard him say "We start tomorrow"
