Even though this is in third person I'll still title it with who the chapter focuses on just like before.
***It was late.
Skye knew that.
She knew it, because the last time she looked at the clock on the bedside table it read 1:30 AM, the blonde tossed and turned trying not to wake up her boyfriend Spencer who was sleeping beside her.
She didn't know what it was but she had this overwhelming feeling of dread just sinking into her stomach. It was the source of her sleeplessness. She knew that but just couldn't pinpoint why this feeling was plaguing her.
She opened her eyes again and then looked at the clock once again and it had been an hour since the last time she looked. It was now 2:30 in the morning. Skye let out a silent sigh, before slipping out of bed and going into the kitchen quietly. Grabbing a glass of water and taking a sip. Letting out another sigh as she wracked her brain to see if she could figure out what this feeling was but she came up with nothing. She took another drink of her water.
A quiet crash at the door put the blonde on alert, making her grab the pistol that she kept hidden in the drawer beside the sink... after the ordeal that she went through with her ex-husband, she kept it for a sense of security.
Skye crept towards the door the gun in her hand, 'it's probably nothing, and Matty just forget his keys, it wouldn't be the first time my brother has showed up in the middle of the night and misplaced his key to the door,' she thought which is the only reason that she was even opening the door, Matty is supposed to be here tomorrow anyway he's meeting Spencer face to face for the first time.
Matty is always busy with work, he's an FBI agent he works out of the Portland field office and he is also a bit of a workaholic, which is why he hasn't met him yet.
If she had only known the truth about who was really out there, she would have turned around and called the police and not even opened the door.
Skye unlocked the door and opened it a bit to say something about how Matty misplaced his key only to face the very last person that she ever wanted to see at her door anytime much less in the middle of the night, her very abusive ex-husband Mason Harrington. "Hello Skye." There was a smirk on his face and a deranged look in his eyes.
Skye swallowed the lump in her throat trying not to show her fear, "you're not supposed to be here... you're not supposed to be within 1000 feet of me." She tried to shut the door in his face but wasn't fast enough... so she pointed the gun at him "you come any closer and I will shoot you." But he just smirked, sending a shiver down her spine and not the good kind of shiver either.
It happened so fast, Skye didn't even have time to flip the safety before he grabbed the gun and wrenched it out of her hands "really you're going to shoot me with the safety on?" He tsked "I honestly expected better, now I've been watching you for days my love, just waiting for the perfect opportunity to attack."
She let out a shaky breath as he now pointed her gun back at her with the safety off as she glanced over her shoulder hoping that Spencer hadn't woken up during this because Mason would hurt him and she can't have that happen. She can't let Spencer get hurt because of her.
Spencer Reid was her saving grace, her light in the darkness and Skye refused to let Mason snuff that out. "Ah ah ah, don't even think about making a sound and waking your little boyfriend in there... I will kill you and then I'll make him suffer even worse for your betrayal."
At his words she could feel the tears well up in her eyes as she silently weighed her options. She could try and make a run for the phone and call the police but she knew that she would be dead before they even got close, so that isn't an option... option two was that she could scream and alert someone but it would be the same end result. "No he has nothing to do with this, this is between me and you, leave him alone and I'll come with you."
He smirked at me again "good, you have 5 minutes, I'm standing right here... you try to escape and I'll kill him, you try to alert anyone and I'll kill you, him and whoever tries to intervene, got it?"
Skye nodded, "I got it, no tricks or funny business, you leave him alone and I'll go quietly, no problems."
She made her way into her bedroom as quietly as possible, getting a few things together. She was doing the right thing, she was doing what she had to do to protect Spencer from the darkest parts of her past... She thought she was free but turns out she was wrong.
After she packed she used the last few minutes to write a letter for Spencer to read. In the morning, she couldn't help but let a few silent tears fall and they hit the paper in a few spots but once it's written she leaves it on the table where he will find it first thing in the morning.
Mason grabbed her arm as she walked out the door and practically dragged her down to his truck, shoving her into the passenger side.
Skye feels tears welling up in her eyes again but pushes them back. She refuses to show him weakness. The blonde glanced over her shoulder one last time seeing the apartment building that she's called home for the past three years disappear from view.
Skye knows that letter is going to crush Spencer but at least he'll be alive. She watches as the scenery passes by dragging her back to her own personal hell... but she was protecting the man that showed her what real love is, so she'll do what she has to.
After a while the truck came to a stop outside of the two story house that Skye lived in with Mason when they were married aka her own personal hell. Once he parked the truck, he grabbed bags in one hand and then roughly grabbed her arm.
Dragging her inside the house, and up the stairs before shoving her inside an upstairs bedroom and dropping the stuff on the bed, all while not letting go of her arm, Skye knew there would be a bruise there later but she stayed quiet and didn't try to fight him. Skye knew that as long as she complied and didn't fight back that Mason would leave Spencer alone.
The man shoved her down onto the bed in the room that was designated as hers, when they were married it was more like a cell, bars on the windows but the door stayed locked the whole time she was in there, it had a bed, wardrobe and a bathroom with a toilet, sink and shower and then finally released her arm only to snap a shackle onto her ankle.
"The shackle is just a precaution, to prevent you from running away again, it's long enough that it reaches everywhere you need it too and once you've learned your place, we might be able to renegotiate and remove it but until that time comes, welcome home Skye." and then he walked out of the room leaving her alone, locking the door behind him.
Once she knew that she was alone was when she finally let the tears fall down her face, she knew that this wasn't going to be pleasant for her but she was protecting Spencer so she would endure it, whatever he had planned for her as punishment for leaving him she would endure it all, no matter what to protect him... she didn't care about her own wellbeing she just wanted Mason to stay away from Spencer, she hoped that if she ever saw him again that he wouldn't hate her too much, that he would understand why she did what she did.
She let out a shaky breath as she slowly put things away, she was stuck here for the foreseeable future so she wasn't going to leave the room messy and then she laid down on the bed as a fresh set of tears welled up in her eyes.
