Chapter 2: I Want to Write You a Song

**✿❀○❀✿**

Matilda screamed as her eyes shot open. Sweat dripped down from her body, tears escaped her eyes and sobs could be heard from her.

Wilbur was quick to enter her room only to see his fiancé hugging her knees. "Tilly..." he trailed. She looked up at him and her lips quivered, "Wilby-"she sobbed making him rush to her.

Climbing on her bed, he pushed off the blanket and wiped the sweat and tears from her face. Matilda was quick to wrap her arms around him, still crying from the nightmare that she had woken up to.

Wilbur wrapped his arms around her, combing her black hair with his fingers. "Shhh. My love, it's okay. You're here. I'm here." He whispered.

"They- they burned to death Wilby- they're gone-" "I know. I know. But they're safe now wherever they are. They're free from all the cruelty of this world." He whispered.

"They screamed for me. I couldn't save them." she cried and shook her head. Wilbur didn't stop whispering reassurance to her but it didn't seem to work.

So in return, he did something he had not done in a very long time. Matilda's sobbing calmed down the moment she heard Wilbur's humming. Her shoulders relaxed as he pulled her tight resulting in her being moved to his lap.

I wanna write you a song

One as beautiful as you are sweet

With just a hint of pain

For the feeling that I get when you are gone

I wanna write you a song

Matilda sighed in relief as she snuggled into Wilbur like the multiple times that this would happen in the past. The action didn't fail to make Wilbur smile.

I wanna lend you my coat

One that's as soft as your cheek

So when the world is cold

You'll have a hiding place you can go

I wanna lend you my coat

It was not new for Matilda to wake up screaming and crying, Wilbur knew that. Ever since the death of her parents because of the blazes that escaped the nether one time that burned their oak home when she sneaked out to meet him one night.

Ooh, everything I need I get from you

Ooh, givin' back is all I wanna do

This prompted Wilbur to write a song for Tilly the second time the nightmare occurred. It was not easy but he realized the soft humming and singing calmed his Tilly down.

I wanna build you a boat

One as strong as you are free

So any time you think that your heart is gonna sink

You know it won't

I wanna build you a boat

It didn't last long before Matilda's tears disappeared and her sobs turned into sighs. Her eyes closed as she gripped Wilbur's yellow crewneck.

Ooh, everything I need I get from you

Ooh, givin' back is all I wanna do

Ooh, everything I need I get from you

Ooh, givin' back is all I wanna do

Despite hearing Matilda's soft snores and light breathing, this did not make Wilbur stop singing. He wanted to be sure that she would sleep well that night, he wanted to be sure that she wouldn't have to wake up a second time.

I wanna write you a song

One to make your heart remember me

So any time I'm gone

You can listen to my voice and sing along

I wanna write you a song

I wanna write you a song
