Chapter 30. Matilda

**✿❀○❀✿**

Matilda walked through the plains next to the village she had been staying at.

She had found herself traveling the vast world.

Something she was not allowed to do when she was Wilbur and thought she would be able to do when she was Wilbur.

The time she had finally left and said goodbye to the people back where she has introduced her to the best adventures of her life.

She had traveled to different places; snowing, deserts, forests, swamps, and even forbidden cities.

There were days she longed for home. Time when she walks out of her house, the people she cherished would be right outside.

But then again, she didn't miss the chaos and destruction. She loved the feeling of seeing new things and meeting new people.

She did feel guilty about leaving people she cared about; Niki, Tommy, Tubbo, Ranboo, Fundy, Karl, George, and Sapnap, but they understood.

Matilda stood there, listening to the sound of the animals, the feeling of the wind blowing her hair, and the warmth of the sun.

Simple and peaceful.

If people back home saw her now, they would be in shock at how much she changed.

The scars that came from defending herself from mobs, her now short black hair, the simple pants and shirt, and even the armor she was wearing.

Matilda Darling was far from who she was before.

She will always love the place, people, and memories she had in the past but right now she didn't need anyone to be who she is.

She was real.

With or without someone to tell her.

Her story reminded her how real her life is.

She was real.

They were real.

And so was the world.

Matilda Darling didn't need someone—a man—to make her feel like herself. She found herself on her own.

She just had to turn her back on the past, accept it with all her heart, and learn from it.

That didn't mean she wouldn't come. Once she was ready to, she would, but right now she was enjoying the plains.

No buildings, walls, burger vans, craters, or bases. Just simple old vanilla plains.

She let out a breath before gripping her satchel, she turned back to the village and waved goodbye to the villagers and the iron golem protecting their home.

She turned back to the unknown, breathing in and out. She smiled to herself,

"Let's do this."

And off she went, to her new adventure.
