Chapter 21. Tell Me A Lie

**✿❀○❀✿**

Matilda walked to the open grounds. The light from the moon made it easier for her to take notice of whom he was looking for.

When Sapnap returned, she was confused about where the dirty blonde boy captured her heart. The young hunter said that the blonde had gone home earlier than he did.

This worried Matilda but George informed her that he was in his room. That calmed her down a bit but she got more worried when he didn't leave his room.

It was weird for her now. She would spend most of her time with Dream but it seemed as though he wasn't in the mood to leave his room.

Matilda had experienced this before. So, she didn't really want to annoy him. She knew when her presence was wanted and when it wasn't.

But as the night neared, her worry turned into dread when she noticed Punz and George exit Dream's room. She had also heard that Sapnap was let in the room earlier.

So, like what she planned, she took a walk that night. Hoping that he would be out like he would be every night. And her assumptions were right.

There sitting on the grass was Dream. Surrounded by the fireflies and the moonlight hitting his face. He wasn't wearing his mask.

She walked closer to him and noticed how Dream's posture changed. He sat up straight, squared his shoulders, and his eyes opened.

Dream let out a sigh but didn't look at her. Matilda sat next to him, but still had a little bit of space between them. She didn't want to overstep boundaries.

No one spoke. They were engulfed with the sounds of the croaking frogs and the howling of the wind.

That was until "You've been home all this time." She spoke. Dream hummed and looked at the sky, his heart skipped a beat when she called their base a home.

"And I have been looking for you."

"..."

Matilda sighed and shook her head, she turned to him, crisscrossed her legs, and pouted. Dream could see her from his peripheral vision, but he didn't move to look back at her.

"Did I do something to upset you?" she asked in a small voice. It made Dream's heartache, he sighed, not being able to hold it in. "Matilda."

She hummed and waited for him to speak, "Don't play with me." He whispered as he continued to stare at the moon. This made her confused.

"What? Dream, I'm not." She said. He snickered and shook his head, "Then it was just my imagination that I saw you and Wilbur earlier?" he asked as he finally looked at her.

"Wh-what?" she asked. He scoffed and rubbed his face, "I get it. I will never be on his level." He said before standing up and walking away.

Matilda was quick to run after him, grabbing his arm and turning him towards her again. "You don't understand. He was drunk-" "And you can never just turn your back on him can't you?

"You can't find it in your heart to say no? Because you're so good and you know deep down that you love him-"

"Dream." She cut him off. Her tears pool with tears. He frowned, "Did I lie? There will always be a part of your heart that Wilbur will hold. And no matter how much I tell and show you how I feel about you, it will never be enough!"

He yelled making her jump but he didn't stop. It was as if a truth serum was put in his drink because it was all just flowing out of him.

"Because it doesn't matter how much I feel for you because you will never love me as you love him!"

"Dream-"

"You will never love me as much as I love you!"
