~Author here! I have decided I don't like the direction I was taking this story so I am rewriting ALL the chapters I have so far. So if you read this before the rewrite then woo better flow! If not, wooo you get a good story. First chapter is pretty much the same, just minor changes to make stuff flow better. Anywho, enjoy!~
Luz had only one thing in her mind since her mentor's duel with her older sister (who happened to be the Emperor's right hand woman! She would have to ask Eda about that baggage later.): Save Eda. She wouldn't allow anything else. King had told her what petrification was before they left the Owl House on Owlbert; she had to fix this. Eda needed to live.
Now, how to get arrested quickly and get sent to the Conformitorium? Of course it had to be the most innocent crime in existence: standing on grass. Grass you weren't allowed to stand on because a sign said so, because that made sense (the Boiling Isles was an odd place).
"Ohhh nooo! I'm standing on this grass! What will happen??", Luz exclaimed loudly in a mocking tone. It definitely got the attention of the guard on post because soon her and King were in the back of a wagon. Little did she know, Willow Park had seen the whole thing. She was extremely concerned as to why her friend had just been arrested.
King huddled close to the human for warmth and comfort as the carriage moved closer and closer towards the Conformitorium. Luz did her best to calm her anxiety, which was growing by the minute. She didn't exactly have a plan on how to break Eda out. I mean, she was the queen of winging it! Hmm, maybe not, Luz didn't have the best track record with that kind of strategy.
'Well too late for that!', Luz thought as the cart slowed to a stop. They had arrived at their destination. She prepared for an attack; King on her shoulder and her glyphs at the ready. Once the door opened she activated a fire and ice glyph, quickly subduing the guards and Warden Wrath.
"Where is Eda?!", she growled. Warden Wrath cowered and whined in his deep voice.
"S-shes in a holding cell in the dungeon!", he answered shakily.
"Draw us a map!", King barked as he threw the large demon a pen and a piece of paper.
Wrath nodded nervously and quickly got to work. He gingerly handed the small demon the finished map, who snatched it away quick. The duo took off to look for their guardian.
The two finally reached the dungeon doors; Luz breaking the padlock with an ice glyph.
"King, watch the door while I look for Eda, okay?", the small demon nodded while Luz walked into the dark room, activating a light glyph to see her surroundings.
Soon she came upon a large feathery mound, and at a closer glance she discovered it to be Eda. Quickly before the Owl Beast Eda got aggressive, Luz made her ball of light brighter. Eda'a charcoal eyes soon became her familiar gold ones.
"Luz??? What are you doing here! You need to leave, now!", Eda said in a panicked tone. She swiveled her head and looked around to see if anyone was coming.
"It's okay Eda, I'm here to save you!", Luz attempted to break the chains binding Eda, but to no avail. She growled in frustration and kept trying.
"Your magic ain't strong enough to break me out kid, you need to leave before you get caught!", Eda pleaded.
"But I can't! I'm the reason you're in this mess in the first place! It's my fault you needed to save me and now you're caught!"
Eda sighed and smiled sadly, "No. Listen to me. I'm here because of my own actions. I went against Belos's law, and for a while I was able to get away with it. But, well without my magic, I can't do much. I don't regret anything. I lived freely and... I got to meet you."
Luz began to shed tears, shaking her head. She still tried to break the chains. If Eda had taught her charge anything, it was stubbornness.
"But if you stay here, I won't be able to protect you. You need to leave. Now!", Eda pleaded again.
"NO! Us weirdos have to stick together dammit! We're a family!", the human cursed. Eda was a little taken aback, the kid never swore. Part of her swelled with pride, but it soon was overwhelmed by fear.
The Owl Lady sighed, and reached into her hair, pulling the portal key out. When she clicked the eye, the door sprang to life and opened up into the human realm."You have a family already. Go back to them. And when you're home, use your fire magic to destroy the portal door. I don't know why Belos wants it, but we can't take any chances", Eda explained as she placed the key around her student's neck.
Luz began to cry harder and bear hugged her teacher, "NO! I'm not going. I have no one in the human realm who gets me! Don't make me go! Please Eda- I love you."
"I'm sorry kid.."
The platform that the tour were on, began to rise. Luz, off-balance already from the movement, was pushed by Edith through the portal door.
"Goodbye Luz", Eda said with tears in her eyes and a sad smile.
One second the door was there, the next it wasn't. She clicked the button 100 times at least, or more; yet no magical doorway arrived. And that's when everything came crashing down onto her.
"No...nononononono!! Eda?! King!! Come on you stupid key! WORK!!", she yelled.
She began to sob, and then she screamed. A bloodcurdling scream. She screamed and her throat was raw. This couldn't be happening..
Why was this happening?
