"Bloody hell! Why the door is asking me—!" James heard through the door of their own room. Someone in the dorm next to his was speaking loudly, and they could hear them through the walls.
With a smile floating on his face, he woke up slightly, leaning on his elbow, opening the red curtains of his bed. Remus was opening his at the exact same time, and their eyes met. James loved the morning of pranks. It was fantastic. He shot a knowing look with Remus, who was smiling smugly too now. James jumped out of bed, and as he put his feet on the floor, the voice of someone else could be heard.
"What the fuck? Put something in a barrel that would make it lighter? What does that mean, Brett!"
"Oh," Sirius said, and James looked at him. He was already up, sitting on his chair, his legs crossed in an aristocratic way, his nose lifted as if it was allowing him to hear and think better, and his elbow propped on the table next to him. He was already all dressed up, and he seemed to enjoy the conversation that was happening in the room next to theirs way too much. It made James smile wider. "I know that one," Sirius nodded, as if he was tasting a good wine.
"Me too," Peter chuckled, with a smirk. He was putting on his trousers. "I casted it."
"What is it?" James asked them, scratching the back of his head, his smile not leaving his lips. He reached for his glasses on his nightstand.
"What can you put in a barrel that would make it lighter?" Peter asked James, repeating the riddle, buttoning his trousers. "It's an easy one," he added, but James had no clue.
"What's the answer?"
"A hole," Peter answered, tying his tie around his neck.
"That's not an easy one," James chuckled, raising one of his eyebrows, and smirking too. He felt a bit bad for the poor roommates, on the dorm next to them.
"FIND AN ANSWER, BRETT, WE'RE GOING TO BE LATE FOR BREAKFAST!" they heard, almost startling them all.
Suddenly, James, Remus, Peter and Sirius' gaze cross, and for a few seconds they all looked at each other in silence, James, a hand on his mouth, Sirius, who had his hand in a fist, biting his finger. As they tried very hard not to laugh, another voice disturbed the silence.
"EDDIE, WHAT THE FUCK!"
James let out a cry despite the hand in front of his mouth, and that was enough; they all burst out laughing, not able to contain it anymore. James lowkey hoped they couldn't be heard from the room next to theirs, but as they were all laughing, he couldn't really care less.
Sirius was tapping the table with his fist, and he was folded in a half on his chair. At some point, he rolled on the floor, causing them all to laugh harder. Peter was even holding his stomach, crouched next to his bed, not able to stand up anymore either.
"Please, it's painfully funny," he said, and James couldn't agree more.
He had tears at the corner of his eyes. Even Remus was laughing, still in his bed, still dishevelled from his night.
"Oh, come on, I want to see more of it," Remus said, getting out of his bed, suddenly motivated, between two chuckles.
"You sadistic bastard," Sirius raised his eyes to meet Remus', a smile still lingering on his lips as he did so.
"You like it that way, Black," Remus winked at him.
James laughed at it. Remus? Winking at Sirius? Come on. He was known as the Casanova of Gryffindor, always flirting here and there, but he was so... unable to flirt with Sirius. Incapable of being smooth with his childhood crush when he was able to make anyone blush on command. So him actually being smooth with Sirius was hilarious; he was never smooth for too long with Sirius Black. James cackled, and even though Remus and Sirius shot him an interrogative look, they probably thought he was still laughing about Brett and Eddie in the next dorm, trying to open desperately their door to go have breakfast.
