It was getting late, and the plants glowed a fluorecent purple and blue haze on Luana's face. She took a deep breath, and dipped her head under the water.
She swam slowly, giving herself time to admire the underwater plants, and the fish that swam by. Lots of animals would come up to her.
Since she had healed quite a couple of them, they were all pretty fond of her.
Her eyes glistened as she swam up to the spirit tree. Every week, she would connect to the spirit tree to look for an answer. An answer to why she was different, why she had her powers.
She grabbed the long braid in her hair, making the Tsaheylu with a branch from the tree. She closed her eyes and wished for something, anything.
But she felt nothing.
She heard nothing, and she saw nothing.
She ripped her hair away, not being as careful as she probably should have.
Of course she expected this, its exactly what happened every time.
But it never got any easier to take.
She ignored that emptiness she was suddenly feeling, and made her way back to the village.
When she rose from the water, she saw Neteyam and Aonung on the sand.
Neteyam was shoving him back, yelling at him.
Luana furrowed her brows in confusion and strut towards them.
"What is wrong with you?" Neteyam seethed.
He was about to push him again, but Luana grabbed his arm. "What is going on Neteyam?"
Neteyam looked at her, his chest rising in anger. He didn't say anything, he just pointed at Aonung, and started pacing around the sand.
Luana took slow steps towards Aonung.
"Aonung, what did you do?"
-
"Lo'ak!" Jake yelled.
Aonung confessed to taking Lo'ak outside the reef, and he hadn't come back yet.
They were all on the sand bank. Metkayina searched the water for him, and everyone was shouting his name.
Luana was refusing to talk to Aonung.
Neteyam kept pacing anxiously. All Luana wanted to do was comfort him, but she couldn't do that with everyone around. She just had to act as if the emotions that he was feeling meant nothing to her.
"Lo'ak!" Jake called again.
"I've got him"
Lo'ak was brought back on a Skimwing.
Jake and Neytiri rushed down to him. Jake brought Luana along too, so she could heal Lo'ak straight away if he was injured.
"Lo'ak" Jake said, putting his hands on his shoulders and scanning him for any injuries. "Cmon, help me check" Jake said to Luana.
Luana turned Lo'ak around, checking for any cuts of bruises. She could also tell if he had a broken bone or internal bleeding, just from touching him. Luana looked down his back, placing her hands above his waist.
She closed her eyes. This was a new part of her abilities that she had discovered recently.
"No internal bleeding or broken bones. He has a small scratch on his left calf, but he is fine" Luana said, taking a step back. Neytiri gave Luana a grateful nod.
