Question: If your work colleague is being mean to you, what will you do? 

Rain: Huh? That's a difficult question. I don't understand why people have to be mean to each other. But if my colleague is mean to me, I guess I will go ask him why he is mean to me. I think it is good to just confront the person and have it all out of the chest. I mean, it's better than keeping everything hidden and that person is mean to me and then I start to be mean back. It's not good. Maybe if I ask the person why they are mean to me, I might realize it could be my mistake? I am not perfect so I might piss people somehow too. Or that person doesn't realize they are being mean. Yeah, I think I'll just talk it out. Over beer and snacks. 

Payu: Well, I am lucky I've never had to deal with any colleagues who are particularly mean to me, since I am quite popular if I have to say so myself. But I did come across people were mostly jealous of my achievements and try to find fault with them. I guess the best way to deal with mean people would be just to do let your achievements speak for themselves. As long as you did nobody wrong and put in the effort to get the results you want, those are things that nobody can steal from you. If the "mean" is only surface level, like verbal, I think it's a good training for one to practice ignoring. I take it as my way of cultivating a stronger mental state. If the "mean" is physical and likely to jeopardize your safety or the safety of your loved ones, then seeking professional help should be the priority. Just because we can tolerate mean doesn't mean we should let bullies overstep our boundaries. 

Sky: I'll kill mean with all the kindness I can muster of course. I don't think people are born to be bad but due to different circumstances, people can grow up with many insecurities and fear so half the time when they are mean, they might not know it or they are just insecure. So towards a mean colleague, I'll just be the bigger person and let things I can let slide, slide. If I can't, it's either I confront the colleague politely or through a mediator. If the mean colleague is ranked above me, I'll probably suck it up if it's not too bad and wait for them to fall. I believe in karma. It doesn't pay to be an asshole you see so mean people always get what they deserve. If the mean colleague is ranked lower than me, it's even easier, just ignore them. I'll just work on myself and my achievements. End of the day, I do no evil, speak no evil and spread no evil, my conscious is clear, my heart and mind is calm. Saddhu. 

Prapai: Mean colleagues? Reminded me when my dad tossed me to work from the bottom of the company ladder. Mine wasn't just mean, it was pure evil. Do you realize how many people will dare to bully you EVEN if they know you are the son of the richest man in the country? I mean, I could have been young and stupid but I definitely didn't deserve being locked in the toilet for a day out or have ALL my new cars scratched. Anyway, nowadays, I sort of thank all those assholes who were mean to me. They were the training on how I should manage people needed as I climb the ranks with my merits. Some of them are long gone, some of them are still around. Dealing with mean people, you might want to do what I did. I can forgive but I never forget and I always bid my time. I'm always patient and fair. And, I take my time having fun and enjoying the process of getting rid of people who were mean to me. Of course, I don't get rid of people just because they were mean to me, I actually do weigh on their personality, merits and if they serves any purpose in the company. I just don't keep underperformers or people who disrupt my company's positivity culture. Assholery is definitely a choice based on my experience.
