Jay came home and looked at his wife, Hailey. "I quit my job. I'm going to Bolivia to take a job with the Army."

Hailey looked at him in shock, not knowing how to respond. "You what? You can't just go to Bolivia."

"Hailey I know this is hard to understand, this decision wasn't easy for me either. But we've both changed since the whole thing with Roy. I keep trying to protect Voight from himself and he just keeps pulling me more and more into his corrupt schemes. I can't do that anymore. I want to be the man you fell in love with again. So I'm leaving. It will only be for eight months."
"No." Hailey had tears in her eyes.
"What no Hails?" asked Jay, wiping away her tears.

"No you're not just going to go to Bolivia and leave me here alone. Not for eight months, not even for a day would I let that happen. You're right, we've both changed since the Roy thing. After all that, I can't work for Voight either. So I'll quit too and then we'll go to a new city together and start a new life leaving all that Chicago crap behind."

Jay looked Hailey in the eye and gave her a hug. "I can't ask you to leave your whole life behind and lose everything Hailey."
"You are my whole life Jay and if you go to Bolivia without me then you would be asking me to lose everything I care about. You are the most important thing to me in the whole world and I would follow you anywhere."

Jay sighed, not knowing how to proceed. He had made the plan with Bolivia quickly without thinking much about it.
"What are we going to do then? In Bolivia you wouldn't have a job Hailey and my job would only be for eight months."
"Call Bolivia and tell them you have to turn down the job." Hailey said.

"I can do that but then what? We need to think this through if we really want to leave Chicago."
Jay picked up his phone and made a quick call to turn down the Bolivia job while Hailey went into the bedroom and made a call as well.

After a few minutes, Hailey came back. "How would you feel about Washington D.C. to start over?" she asked her husband.
"D.C sounds great but we don't have any jobs there so we should look for jobs first."
"I got us jobs so it's not 100% firm yet but Director Vance from NCIS will look at our personnel files and call me back in 2 hours."

"Isn't NCIS where your best friend Abby works?"
"Yes Abby works there as a forensic scientist. If we work at NCIS as federal agents we would work for the Navy even if it's not the Army we would be working for the military. Also we would make double than what we make now."

"That all sounds really good but Hailey how do you get these jobs for us so fast?"

"Do you remember a few months ago after the Roy thing when I brought a time out and visited Abby for a week?" "Yeah I remember that"
"I was with Abby at her work. She introduced me to everyone including the director. I talked to him a bit and then got to work on a case with them.
He said if I ever wanted to do something else or needed a fresh start he would be happy to hear from me. The team of Agent Gibbs is supposed to expand a bit so that they can work even faster and better, which is why they are looking for two new agents.
His team is really great, it's like a family of its own and even in the few days I was there I felt like a part of that family. This team is unique and very special. I think this is the kind of team we could use to really start over."

"Then let's move to D.C. and start working at NCIS if they'll accept us," Jay said, happily taking Hailey in his arms.

They sat down on the sofa and took Hailey's laptop to search for apartments in Washington.
They didn't notice how fast the time went by until the ringing of Hailey's phone startled them. Hailey picked up her phone and answered it.
She put it on speaker.

H: Hello Director Vance, I put you on speaker so my husband can hear you.

D.V: Hello Mrs. and Mr. Halstead, I'm glad to welcome you to NCIS.
You both have the jobs. Just from your personnel record and your past in the Army, I was very impressed Mr.Halstead.

J: Thank you Director Vance, I look forward to serving the military again by working for your agency.

D.V: How quickly did you get everything in place in Chicago to start here in D.C.?

H: I would say it would take us about 2 weeks.

D.V: Well then I'll see you in 2 weeks at 8 o'clock down at the Navy Yard. You will be working on Gibbs team which you already know Mrs.Halstead. They're looking forward to seeing you soon. You've made quite an impression on all of us. In the beginning you will be probationary agents and after 3 months you will have to take a test, if you pass it you will both be hired as Special Agents at NCIS permanently.

H: We are very grateful to you Director Vance.See you in 2 weeks.

D.V: See you in two weeks, probationary agents Halstead and Halstead.

After Director Vance hung up, Hailey and Jay were as happy as little children at christmas morning.

They also found a perfect apartment after a few hours and bought it outright.

Over the next 2 weeks, they planned everything, gave notice in Chicago, and packed up everything.

The night before they moved to Washington, Will threw a huge going away party for his brother and sister-in-law at Mollys.

It was a great night and they would miss their family and friends in Chicago very much but they both knew they needed this change and everyone close to them understood the decision they made.

The next day they moved to Washington D.C.
Tomorrow they would have their first day of work at NCIS.
The two couldn't wait to start this new beginning, in a new city with new jobs.
