Prologue
For forever I wanted to meet someone. Someone who understood me. I try to be outgoing but nothing works. I am alone. All the time. My dad and mom became addicts and couldn't stop. One night they both disappeared and never returned. I never knew them really. My aunts and uncles never wanted me and I had to stay in an orphanage for 14 years, and finally this year I went into the foster program. I thought it was going to be a good thing. Until I met my new foster parents. Just a bunch of slobs. Their names are Sue and Mike. My new 'parents' don't pay attention to me and I do all the work. Sometimes I wonder how they lived without a foster kid hanging around. Just one person I wanted to meet and like me for who I am. My foster parents wanted to keep me out of school for 2 months, so I could get used to 'the new enviornment' Probably just want me to get used to the dirty dishes. My life was all going down the drain until one day it all changed.
I slowly opened the squeaky door that reveals the classroom. "Hello!" Shouts an old lady who looks about 70. I jumped, not expecting a welcoming hello. "Come on in! You must be Avani, the new student!" The teacher continued.
"Y-yes I am."
"My name is Ms. Smith, have a seat!" Ms. Smith explained. In about five minutes I was situated with a textbook, my binder, and all the paperwork that I missed up to now in the roman unit. Cold eyes were staring at me from all corners of the room. Desperate for the eyes to stop staring I decided to break the ice. I turned and whispered to the person next to me. "Hi my name is Ava! I'm new and was wondering if you could catch me up to what Ms. Smith is talking about?" The girl handed me a "not so nice note" that will forever be etched into my brain. "Can it." She responded. "Well this is a nice school!" I said to myself. After class it was lunch time. The worst part of the day, and I usually eat in the janitors closet to prevent from not-so-nice people saying this spot is "taken". I brought my old meat loaf, and moldy potatoe chips to the nearest closet and sat on top of a bucket. I suddenly had a rush of anger in me. Between the foster parents to the "can it" girl I just wanted to punch something. This day was not going well and I never had this rush in me before. All of the sudden the school shaked. Only just for a moment. "Hey there, was that you?" A voice said. I jumped. "W-who are you?" I questioned. The voice came out of the dark corner "Waterlily, Lily for short, I am a water figure, you must have the earth figure."
"Excuse me?"
"You haven't figured it out yet haven't you? Meet me at my place 6 sharp no later." She handed me a slip of paper with an address on it.
"See you then!" After that Lily slipped out of the closet and I sat there struck with an idea what "Earth figure" meant.
