My brothers and I have been gathered in the library room for an afternoon press conference with Maxprep. The cameras are rolling live, and the three of us—Markus, Jordan, and I—are soaking the media like a sponge.
The reporter, Kimberly Sparks introduced us remarkably to the people who were watching live. From the looks of things, our school is on the radar for having one of the top projected football programs, in the state of California. I was impressed. I also knew, there were a lot more athletes on our football team who were capable of being in this interview. However, the maximum of people needed were three. So, instead of taking all day to decide, our head coach selected the three student/athletes who were making an impact on the football program.
You can guess who they are...
Furthermore, I've never been in this type of spotlight. The cameras rolling in the back ground, while being interviewed in front of probably thousand a of people. However, I was comfortable. The reporter is communicating with us as if she's one of our peers. She's black, charismatic, knew how to have good time, and wasn't afraid to laugh.
"With all that being said... I just want one of you to tell us, what has been the key success for the start of you alls season."
The three of us looked at one another, but eventually we stared at Jordan, giving him the notion that he should be the one to speak. He laughs while pointing to himself.
Placing his face in front of the microphone. "Well... I do confess, that it was through the grace of God and team work that we've made it this far being undefeated this season." He smiles. "We've also had a lot of players added to the roster this past spring, but I must also confess God brought someone really special to the plate."
I smile and shake my head in the same motion.
"Very nice, God is good and ya'll have been great this year, even in the current years. Ima big fan." She expressed in a geeky way. "You also mentioned a special player came in this year, who would that happen to be."
"Well Miss Kim," Markus replies. "He just so happened to sitting at the end of that table."
Everyone glanced in my direction, and a heat of butterflies surges throughout me like a crashing wave.
"Well, well, Mr. Dixon... I wouldn't have known that this is your first with this high school's team."
"Well, this is actually my first year playing varsity football over all." I replied.
"Oh wow, really?!?"
"Yes." I answered.
"I've watched your highlights along with the rest, and you've been one of the most fluent linebackers we've seen all year—so I would've never guessed this was your first year." She crossed her legs. "Well, let me ask you this... how does it feel, to be able too contribute to such a good program."
I take a quick pause before looking down to my brothers on the right. They were motioning me to speak, but I also want to make sure that we were all sharing the same spotlight.
"Well... that's a good question."

The team and I are kneeling at the goal post, huddled into one large gathering. Our marching band began to play our intro music. Smoke vaping machines created a wall of smog between us, and the cheerleaders on the other side of the ripping paper.
