I let you go

The next morning, Lindsey was still lightly snoozing, as he felt fingertips softly grazing his skin, which was tickling him. This was different, because he was usually the one to wake Stevie up, but sleep was forgotten, when his eyes focused on her gorgeous fresh face, her hair loose and covering her front. He noted that she was already dressed and he instantly knew something must have kept her up, because it was just past nine in the morning.

"I brought you breakfast."

"My angel." Stevie smiled shyly, taking the tray of food that she had put on the nightstand and put it on his lap. "What have I done to deserve such lovely morning?" Lindsey asked, taking a sip of coffee.

"You were amazing last night."

"Well, thank you, you're not bad yourself."

"No that." She rolled her eyes, walking over to her side of the bed and laying down. "I mean, you were so sweet and so loving. You promised to make me feel beautiful and you did that."

"Stevie, I love you. I would never hurt anyone who I love."

"It's hard to trust anyone for me, even if it's you. But I'm getting there I think. I'm certainly a lot better emotionally than I was a couple of months ago. Physical pain is not as bad as it turns out."

"I'm here for you, baby. You know that, doesn't matter what it is, you can always confide in me."

"Why did I ever let you go? Why would I want to risk losing you to someone else, what if you got married? Got another woman pregnant?"

"Now... You know the best part about this? You don't have to worry about that, because you're here with me."

"That's true." Stevie agreed, rolling onto her back.

They remained silent for the most part until Lindsey finished eating, but when he couldn't take the silence any longer, he asked, hoping for a genuine answer. "What have you got on your mind?"

"I can't stop thinking about last night."

"We can have a repeat, you know?" Lindsey chuckled, then stopped when she continued.

"We weren't using anything."

"You mean..."

"Protection, yes that's what I mean."

"I kind of assumed that you're on the pill?"

"I'm not."

"But then, how did you manage it, while... working?"

"On the pill or with every made form of protection ever made, I would have never let any of them come inside me."

"I wish I hadn't asked..."

"I shouldn't have been so graphic."

Lindsey put away the tray and opened his arm for Stevie to lay down closer to him. "Do you think it's possible you got pregnant?"

"I'm not saying that, because I don't know, you know? I just... I don't know."

He laughed at her answer, turning on his side, so they were facing each other. "Hypothetically speaking... And maybe not necessarily now, but if you did get pregnant with my baby, what would you do?"

"I would have it." She replied without hesitation and he couldn't hide a smile. "Did you think I would..."

"I don't know. You're still young, maybe you have other plans."

"Do you hear yourself? And I'm hardly young, certainly not for having children, it's about time, I'd say!"

"Let's try then."

"Excuse me?"

"Marry me too."

"Lindsey!" Stevie shrieked, sitting up. "I might have spilled something into your morning coffee."

"I'm not joking, not in the slightest."

"Well you can't just... spit something like that out. I'm sure you haven't even properly thought about it and only because we had sex last night, doesn't mean..."

"When we were at your parent's." Lindsey cut her rambling off. "Your father asked me, what are my intentions towards you and I said that I'm going to ask you to marry me."

"Seriously?" She was biting on her lip not to break into a smile, but failed quickly. "What did dad say?"

"That it's the only right thing to do."

"I can't believe this..."

"I don't have a ring, because it's so hard to pick one out, so you're welcome to choose yourself, but, well maybe not the most romantically, but I'm proposing to you. There's no other woman for me. I fell in love with you and I don't think there's a way to go back. I don't want to see anyone else but you being the mother of my children. I doubt all couples have to go through hell to get to this point, but we're no ordinary people. And it only proves we belong together."

"You want me to be your wife?" She even pointed at herself to emphasize it.

"More than anything."

"But if you have a change of heart, I'm not ever signing divorce papers."

Lindsey laughed, pulling her back to him. "Don't be ridiculous! You haven't said yes yet and you're already thinking about separation? I see, you have real high expectations for us."

"I'm saying yes."

"Yes as in..."

"As in yes, Lindsey, I want to marry you."

"And you're not joking?"

"Do you want me to change my mind?"

"No! God, no!"

"Good. So, are you going to kiss me now?"

"With pleasure." He smiled down at her, brushing loose hair out of her face, cupping her cheek to bring her lips closer to his.

She pulled back a little, separating their lips. "When can we start looking for that ring?"
