A little ways down the road...
"I'm beginning to think you're fooling me, Mrs. Buckingham."
Stevie smiled, leaning back into Lindsey, putting her hands on top of his, that were placed on her very tiny baby bump, as they were facing the ocean on the beach, near where they had purchased another house. "In fact yes, I'm not actually pregnant, I just really love vomiting in the morning."
"I thought there would be more of you by now."
"I'm barely four months, Linds. It's fine, nothing to worry about." She looked up at him over her shoulder and he pressed a kiss to the tip of her nose. "You should be glad, we can make love because I don't look like I've swallowed a watermelon."
"Eh, we'd find a way. Doesn't sex induce labor?"
"I've heard it's a myth for horny daddy's to be."
"I guess we'll have to try to make sure and that way we'll know what to do with our second child."
"We'll see if I survive giving birth to this one first! You heard yourself how concerned my doctor is, because I'm so small."
"You'll be a champ, I know it. You can do anything and I'll be right by your side, holding your hand and telling you how amazing you're doing."
"And I'll most likely scream obscenities at you." Stevie laughed, turning around in Lindsey's arms, locking hers around his neck. "Because this is your fault."
"Hey, it's not! I can't help it if you're a very sexy woman and I can't keep my hands off you." He took her by the hand, entwining their fingers, as they started walking along the shore.
"Right, I can't imagine you wanting to lay a finger on me, once this baby is out of me."
"Nonsense. You'll always be beautiful."
"I can be beautiful, when I'm fat too."
"I'm not even having this conversation."
"No, Lindsey, I think we should talk about this. I will gain a lot more weight, because you know, a person is growing inside of me. I might not get back to my figure before the pregnancy right away if ever."
"Do you honestly think I care? I didn't marry you because your looks, but because I love you and you are way more beautiful to me on the inside and that is the only thing that matters. Stevie, you're having my baby! A few stretch marks won't make me call my lawyer to get divorce papers ready."
She stopped abruptly, almost grabbing his face in her hands as she gave him a kiss, then wiped off his lips of her lipstick. "I don't know what I've done to deserve you."
"You love me, that's enough."
"I do love you." She nodded, reaching up for another kiss. "Maybe we should go back to the house? We have guests."
"I don't think they've noticed we're gone, there's food and drinks, they'll be fine."
"Oh come on, Lindsey. They've come for me and I feel like a bad hostess being away."
"We shouldn't have invited anyone."
Stevie rolled her eyes, turning around to head back. "Yes, we should have. They helped me record an album and supported me. I wanted to thank them."
"Damn you and your heart of gold." Lindsey joked, putting an arm around her shoulders.
The two of them returned, finding everyone enjoying themselves. Like Lindsey said, they hardly missed Stevie and Lindsey being gone, until Christine noticed them coming through the sliding glass back door. The musicians who played on Stevie's record were there, as well as her back up singers, Sharon and Lori, and also the ex Fleetwood Mac members.
"You seem so happy, Stevie." Christine said, whisking her away for a chat.
"And I truly am, from the moment Lindsey brought me home with him. I thought, what the hell is wrong with this man? I should be a part of his past, which made me sad, but I didn't want to get too hopeful. But he didn't waste time, he said I love you and I want you with me."
Christine smiled at her friend, who she was glad to have back. "There were never any questions about the feelings you have for each other, I guess, you two simply needed to grow up!"
"You might be right." Stevie laughed a little, her hand on her belly. "It's a lot better when we talk it out now, instead of scream at the top of our lungs."
"Yeah, you two should learn how to keep it down before the little one arrives."
"I feel like this baby brought us even closer together. Lindsey has become a different man, he's calmer and softer. Every night before we go to sleep, he talks to her... or him. He tells our baby what we did during the day or what we're going to do tomorrow, sometimes he sings and I lay there, thinking oh my God, I love you so much." Stevie said, misty-eyed.
"You're going to make me cry!" Christine laughed, feeling emotional as well. "I'm so happy to have you with us again, Stevie. It's not been the same without you."
"I missed you a lot too, I thought about you all the time, about all of you, wishing things had gone differently."
"Doesn't matter what happened, what matters is what will happen in the future and I'm just so glad I'm here to witness you becoming this beautiful little family."
"You do realize you're going to be the baby's godmother, right?"
"I'd be honored. This baby is going to be so gorgeous!"
"Lindsey is already talking about having another one."
"Well of course! It's all fun and games for him."
"Do I feel my ears burning?" Lindsey joined the two women, placing his hands on Stevie's shoulders from around the couch.
"Oh no, I was just saying how amazing you are!" Stevie cocked her head back, puckering up her lips for a kiss.
"Damn right I am."
"I'm beginning to feel as the third wheel." Christine joked, getting up and making space for Lindsey.
As she went away, Lindsey sat down beside Stevie, simply looking at her. "I don't know how you do it, but you take my breath away every time I lay my eyes on you."
"Oh stop, I'm emotional as it is!" Despite herself, she leaned into him, as he laughed softly, circling his arms around her waist.
"I love you."
"I love you way more."
"Do you really want to argue right now?"
"No, I want you to just hold me." She sighed contented, as he kissed the top of her head and did as asked.
